I have a Lite-On DVD ROM Drive, Model JLMS XJ-HD166S, Speed16X/48X on my PC. Recently, I inserted a Region 1 DVD on it. I was prompted to change the region code of the drive for playing the DVD, which I did. Now, I have four more region change options left for the drive, after which it will be locked, when number of changes remaining is displayed as 0.

It seems even if I reinstall Windows or move the drive to another PC, the region code will remain locked. How can I make the drive region free ? I have a PIONEER DVD player of region 2 bought from the grey market. It played this Region 1 DVD without a hitch, meaning it had been made region free.

Go here http://codeguys.rpc1.org/firmwares.html#LTD-166S and patch the firmware. The site has all the resources you will need.

Since the pioneer dvd player has been brought from grey market chances are that it is already region free.
