It seems that despite having sub-sections, most of the threads are posted in the main section itself. This is making it even messier than before imo because we have to keep an eye on both for good deals. Wouldn't it be a good idea to close the main section for posting and additional subforum for "Others" so that threads are posted in their relevant sections only?

Its a good idea. Meanwhile people seem to have stopped reporting threads. It would be helpful if the threads in wrong sections can be reported so that they are moved. I think gradually everyone will get educated.

Same applies for buying help threads. I notice several buying help threads in tech sections. Any thread which is related to buying help should be in that section only. If needed we can add or consolidate sub forums.

Frankly speaking I think otherwise. I feel that the sub sections should be closed and every thing should be posted in main section, as was the case previously. It is much easier to browse.

Why don't we carry out a poll for this, if the forum admin likes.

perhaps it would be better to have just 2 sections - 1. buying & 2. selling .

closed threads can be moved to sub-sections in both - closed offers ...

Separate section for buying and selling is also a good idea. Further an option can be given while creating the main thread itself so that thread title will look like :

FS: [category of product e.g CPU/RAM/HDD/Others etc] Thread title.

There seems to be a law of diminishing returns at play here. Its not about getting the users educated, its more about missing out on potential buyers number one, number two is that most of the FS have more more than one item so things can get a bit tedious and people will start wondering how to categorize the misc items like hdmi cables, cheap fans etc when are usually bundled up with something bigger because they don't tend to sell themselves.

Two Main Sections FTW: WTB/Trade and FS/Trade

I am also advocating two section, but with an optional field of category of product. For multiple item on sale this field can be either blank or "MISC".

OR... say if threads are posted in relevant section.. the main page would still display deals from all section... searching and categorizing becomes easy and at the same time members wont have to look in all the sections while looking for deals....sometimes many of us just jump and seize the opportunity when they see a great deal..which would become a little harder if all deals are not to be seen on the main market page :P

+1 for categorisation. It does help. But I've noticed irrespective of reporting the threads, they do not get moved to the relevant sub-section! Why's that then?

I think that would be the best way to go too. Make it impossible to post anything in the main section but let it show all the updates of the subforums. That way nobody has to bother moving the threads to relevant sections either. And iirc this feature is already there in vb.

Another similar problem:

We have a separate section for buying advice but people keep creating new threads everywhere for buying suggestion. Would it be possible to create a button ( like rep button ) for " move request" ?? This happens in the technical sections too. Like in the comments text-box in rep, we can mention the section where it should be. :)

Why cant you use the red ! report button to report and mention where it should be

Oh !! I thought the report button was for abusive posts, spams etc.

Will do that from now on. :)

so it seems we need a poll with the following options for MEMBERS MARKET:
1) separate sub forums for various things as now created + general place which will show links / or updates
2) only 2 subforums (my favourite) one for buy & one for sell / trade
3) only the subforums as present now with the general place closed
mods can i create such a poll if so in which section???
My personal opnion is that with the present structure if someone has multiple items in a thread of diff types it would need many threads also there are people like me who look at the deals to find a good deal randomly they would be forced to check too many subforums :(
