According to Ars Technica:

Max Payne was cool. He had a really good reason to be messed up and kill a whole lot of people while spouting overwrought, noir-style dialog about how the rain made him... well, sad. He stole bullet-time from the Matrix and then did it better than any game before or since. The movie version of the game has been in the works for a long time, but we may now have a face for the character. Who got the nod? According to Variety, Mark Wahlberg.
Wahlberg is negotiating to play the titular cop who is haunted by the tragic loss of his family and has little regard for rules as he investigates a series of mysterious murders. He finds himself up against an adversary bent on destroying Max and the streets he protects.

I've given this one a thinker, and the casting is pretty good. Play the game in your head, and put Mark Wahlberg in there. It fits, doesn't it? John Moore, the direct of The Omen and Behind Enemy Lines, is helming the project.

This may actually be something worth watching after all!

Here's the link.

Well, in the looks department, he does fit the bill. But what about his voice?? It isn't Max Payne-ish enough for me :(

i love mark wahlberg. he'll be good in this role (just like in 'shooter') .... i wonder if he'll go bald for this :P

^^ Hehe Shooter was one of the worst films made, and wahlberg was totally wasted in that movie. Departed was awesome though

Shooter was pretty decent movie, if not great. I liked him since Big Hit and Four Brothers, though I'll admit he lacks the voice for Max Payne... something which was very distinct in Max Payne series about Max. But you never know until movie comes out. :)

No thick gruffy voice, no Max Payne  . Wahlberg is a fine actor, but IMO he doesn't suit the role of Max Payne.

Max Payne movie?..wow!!
Though i think Damian Lewis (Major Winters in BoB, Detective Crews in Life) would fit the role of max payne perfectly.

Cant wait for this one.

They should add some of the Sin City effects(not the whole movie...that would make it too drab) to the Max Payne movie. And an unknown would add much more mystery to the movie...Either way, I don't think there would be much mystery for us who have played the game anyway.

Rourke would have been too dramatised a Max Payne. Then again, he does have a better voice than Mark Wahlberg.

True. Rourke would have been a bit too much. I saw a poster of a movie the other day, and suddenly thought it was a Max Payne movie. Surprisingly, Kevin Bacon seems to be the lead. Movie's called 'Death Sentence'.

I have stopped tying to guess whether an actor could fit a role or not. I have decided I am not a good judge. :D Vin Deisel in Lumet's Find Me guilty surprised the hell out of me.
