Maxtor Basics 500gb

I bought this HDD yesterday for backup purposes. It was an on the spot decision versus the WD myBook. So i hadnt read any review of this. Surprisingly, i'm unable to find a review of this HDD anywhere online!

Anyway, here i go..

Box

Nicely packed

Outta da box
HDD, power cable (american style unfortunately), data cable(standard), Warranty booklet

In my hand.. MAN is it heavy.. [ i think it weighs in at a kilo :| ]
Nice matt finish too :)

Comparing my 120gb lappie hd with casing next to my Basics

Test with HD Tune

HD Tach Score

So, approx 30MB/s according to the benchmark tools.

I transferred a 700mb file in around 40 seconds

Gets very slightly warm after around 15 mins.

Cost -> Rs.5250 from Oasis Networks at Ritchie street, Chennai.

Seems like a good cost-effective deal to me ~10Rs./GB :)

Has a 3-year limited warranty (as said on the cover). Same service centre as Seagate, the Accel service centre.

Overall->
Looks good, Feels good (but heavy) and cost-effective :)

Sheesh... The review is dated was posted long back...

All thanx to keristal for digging up the thread..
