Storage Solutions Maxtor Portable USB HDD warranty claim?

Hey guys
I have an old USB 80 GB portable Maxtor HDD and its starting to die. Most of the times its not detected by my PC or laptop. When it is detected transfer speeds are insanely slow. According to its serial number its still in warranty.

Here is my question - Will they honor the warranty without a bill? It was purchased locally and I bought it from the last owner without the bill etc. Can I claim warranty just by the serial number?

AFAIK you could. Seagate and Maxtor drives' after sales support is handled Accel Frontline.

you can check warranty via online , create a user id (account) via accel service website & walk in to any accel office with bare drive,user ID, they will process the RMA for you.
