Anyone is doing a part time course in MBA?
i am plannig for part time MBA degree program from ICFAI. anybody is planning to do such courses?
i want to know that is it recommended to do? average student like me can pass out easily? whats the MBA degree value from ICFAI course?
I have to decide to take course in 2 days time. Please suggest as i am highly confused.

Part time MBA courses are not recommended for freshers of even for ppl with minimal experience. I doubt if its worth the trouble u take to get through. Ofcourse u have to study. But its much easier than any other courses. Pass rates are too high, though not sure about exact percentages.

Part time courses do more good to those who are already in middle level management. They have too high a oppurtunity cost to go for full time. But in fairly fresh grads, u should try to get into full time if u have time, good scores in exams like CAT etc, and decent amount of economic backup.

i have decent amount of econimic backup and no time. so i have 1 year work experience in marketing.. i manage things quite well though .can i do this course? anybody doing MBA part time? i was an average student. i will study 1 hour a day personal studies as recommended by ICFAI ppl. and tell me about ICFAI, is it better then IIPM? i also plan for IIPM.

Is ICFAI part time course better then PGDBM?

Dont generalise PGDBM. As u must be knowing by now, there are 100s of institute offering diploma named like that. Only categorisation which seems logical to me is part time and full time. Its needless to say FT is better than PT. Coming to IIPM, i think ICFAI will be better coz they have more support in industry as well as academics.

IMHO any avg student can get through MBA / MBA equivalents. Only concern will be whether u will be able to gain much, which i doubt coz of its part time nature. MBA courses are primarily designed for overall grooming rather than knowledge enhancement. With a PT course u hardly interact at all. That itself defeats the purpose of MBA.

Btw what background r u from, science, engg, commerce? And whats ur most probalble specialisation going to be?

nvidiabeast, don't even think about the 2 institutes you mentioned.

ICFAI is not even recognized by AICTE and a degree from here counts for crap! IIPM is one of the best institutes...NOT!! The only thing they're good at is spending fortunes on their media expenses and recovering it thru the fees they charge their students!

On a generic note, a regular 2-yr programme from any AICTE-recognized & accredited institute is better than any correspondence/distance learning programme..

The only reason why one opts/should opt for a correspondence programme is financial limitations and if this does not apply to you, pls don't waste your time even thinking about this!

If a 2-yr course is too long for you, there are quite a few institutes which offer 1-yr full-time ExecMBA course, which are pretty good. But you need atleast 3 years of work-ex for the same.

AMD4life, ur post made me more confusing :( ICFAI is recognised by indian govt council or something & also recognised worldwide

ICFAI is NOT recognized by the AICTE. But you shud be happy to know tht they have a fairly good reputation in the private sector. But as with all distance education PG programmes, this is only going to be a value addition for a fresher. The ICFAI programme is more for a working professional to gain better prospects for promotions and pay hikes. For a fresher, this isnt going to help much. You'd play safe by enrolling for an AICTE approved MBA distance course if you are a fresher.

Now let me explain you one more important thing about ICFAI.. If you are unable to dedicate more than 1 hr for preparation, then dont..i repeat..DONT even think about enrolling for the ICFAI MBA course. Its tough as hell if u r casual with the preparations. Its curriculum is one of the toughest of all mba courses. I'm saying this because my brother who's working in Pidilite has gone thru the harrowing process.. Though he completed it pretty well, i know how much he had to study for exams. On an average he had to study close to 4 hrs. daily for the course. And unlike me, he is a very sincere ( ;) )..some of his colleagues who joined with him left it midway because they cudnt clear the papers. If you see the books, you'll understand wot m i saying..

This is the reason, its respected in the private sector whr no one gives a jack for AICTE approval..your knowledge is ur asset..and the general notion is tht if u can clear the exams, you are something..;)

There are easier MBA distance education programmes available..you shud try IGNOU, Pondicherry University, Sikkim MAnipal Univ. etc...

The fact remains that ICFAI is not even approved but AICTE, let alone accredited. What this means to you?
1. You CAN NOT use this qualification for a course outside of India
2. You CAN NOT take any of the govt. exams like IAS, UPSC, etc.

I have nothing against ICFAI..They're an institution like others and they wanna make money..Nothing bad in that..but for your sake, I'd say "Don't risk it!"

Moreover, only ICFAI-Hyderabad has some respect in the private sector and thats largely due to their excellent Finance curriculum. Period. Other ICFAI colleges, which have mushroomed throughout the nation are utter crap (This is my personal opinion & my apologies to any ICFAI employee or student reading this!!) The average salary for 2-yr full-time students from any other ICFAI (except for Hyd) hovers around 3-3.5 L and that is after they pay 8L as course-fee!!

Now, a part-time course from this institute would fetch you what? Not only in terms of remuneration but profile..I'm sure you're smart enough to guess that!
You can google as much as you want and you'll reach this conclusion, provided you are unbiased while doing your research!

Strong Recommendation : Slog for another year and go full-time!

Cheers!
