Hi, I'm ready to take on Ubuntu again :ohyeah:

So, I got XGL/Compwiz up and running :D The woobly windows are fun! But how to get the cube effect?
Anyways, it didn't start today :( I get to the login screen, enter my username and password, and then it just shows me the wallpaper. No icons, no nothing :( I can get to the terminal using ctrl-alt-F2. But what do I do from there???

Ok. So, I got bored of that, and thought of checking out 64-bit linux :P I had the CD of 64-bit Hoary, so I installed it. Now to upgrade to Dapper :D

Yikes! My lan card isn't supported! :O Reinstall Dapper again :(

Well, I do :D But the best thing is, Dapper gets installed in under 20mins. And that is with all the common apps! :hap2:

Halooooooooo....anyone there? I'm gonna try TV out now, but before that, if need to know how to repair a bonked ubuntu from the terminal or from Live CD. Cause I'm quite sure that I'll screw up somewhere :P

Another thing. I've been updating and installing new stuff. Where do all these files get downloaded? Can I save them somewhere, so I don't have to download again if I reinstall?

Would get back on this thread, although funny that u entitled it me vs Ubuntu, I had similar feelings with RH (rpm dependency hell) & all other stuff. Ubuntu is great by those means.

Well....seems you haven't read my earlier adventures :ohyeah: When it comes to computers, it is an ongoing battle for me :chair: :bangin: :2guns: :bomb: :crash: :donatell: :jason:  :gun2:

zhops looks like you are having a ball with Ubuntu, may be i should also start to play with ubuntu. I already have it installed in my older hard disk, since i only have one comp i cant keep switching the hard disks.

@dip thanks for the guide, pretty informative, but Ubuntu is really easy to understand atleast the installation part of it :) But still dont know how to work on it though :P

& guys what kind a config should i have to try the XGL stuff....

Hey guys, need a little help quickly. I installed amule (the emule client), but botched up the download directory names. Now it won't start :( I tried the windows trick of uninstalling and installing again, but that didnt help. Now, I either need to start it somehow in command line version, and change the directories to the proper ones; or I need to find and delete the installation files, so I can download again and do a fresh install. Or if there is a amule config file somewhere, I need to access that.

HELP!!!

Edit: Ok, found the amule.conf file, and problem is solved :hap2: Start downloading! :yahoo:
