Media player for Old TV

I want to buy a media player for my friend.

He has an old CRT TV to which he will connect the media payer to.

The media player should be able to play media formats like h-264 mp4/mkv, avi, wmv, mpeg,rmv, 3gp, etc.

Can someone suggest an economical media player setup.

I'm assuming the media player will have ability to play media files from USB storage like pen drives, external HDDs.

Amkette Flash TV (1st Gen) is an option. Also, look at ASUS o play mini

I am assuming the TV has AV in. IF not, he would need to get a AV to RF converter too

Does he have any AV Receiver? As suggested above, do look at the connectors available on the older TV and the media player you would gift.
