PC Peripherals Memory related Q: Diff between Dual Channel and 2 RAM sticks of same config

I am planning to buy DDR3 1333 RAM and since the dual channel matched pairs are costly (>6-8K for 4GB), I thought of buying/using 2 sticks of 2GB DDR3 1333 RAM instead. (this costs 2K for 2GB each).

I will not be overclocking and using MB MSI 790GX-G65. The RAM rating are 1.5V 9-9-9-24.

Will this work ? I think the dual channel concept is related to the RAM slots on MB and nothing to do with the RAM ? Isn;'t it ?

Thanks

It'll work fine most of the time. Trouble is only seen if the 2 sticks are different brands/ speeds, that too, rarely.
