Mendis Vs Brian Lara and tendulkar

There is a lot of talk going on about Ajantha Mendis being the most unplayable spin bowler till date. How do you think he would have fared against Brian Lara or Tendulkar in their prime ? :S
 
tendulkars batting was always hyped against spinners.

the true king of spin will forever be brian lara. he never lets them settle no matter what format of the game it is. murali might still be having nightmares about him.

Haven't you seen Sachin thrash the living daylights out of Warnie? He used to hit him against the spin for sixes! But I do concede that for the past few years Sachin sometimes play's ultra defensively against spinners for seemingly no reason. He also doesn't step out of the crease as much as he used to.
 
yea, it's nothing like, "He balls unbelievable.." or something.. He just got well published as very amazing bowler. I've seen many matches. Some batsman gets her line and length after playing 2-3 balls and then starts hard hitting..

Go try telling that to Warnie, the best spinner of all time. :bleh:
 
Indian stars like Dravid, Yuvraj, Dhoni struggled in Sri Lanka last year, whereas Sachin h've had no problems against Mendis.

Kumble has awesome record against Lara, Poor Kaneria, Murli and McGill. Lara was ok-ok vs Warne.

IMO most unplayable bowler till date is Mohd. Asif, he is simply superb (not on dead batting tracks).
 
Lara maybe the Better One with Spinners Every time..but that Doesn't ignore the fact that Tendulkar has Thrashed down mostly Every Good Bowler of their Class..Spinner or not..enough to let them know Who they're bowling to.:hap2:

They said the same thing about agarkar. Infact Agarkar was the fastest to reach 50 ( or was it 100? ) wickets in international cricket. Look at where he is now.

Mendis still has a long way to go.
 
Personally , I think both Lara and Tendulkar in their prime would have taken Mendis apart like anything. But I see some response about IPL batting also. Without mincing words, I think apart from a marketing event ,IPL/ICL or any twenty20 match doesn't serve much purpose. I am perhaps too much old school but I would love to see a test match on a lively pitch or a ODI any day. FOr me that is the true measure of a cricketeer. How he performs in a test match or a ODI. T20 is about instant gratification for a generation that is brought up on fast food and a fast life. Nothing beyond that.
 
I beg to differ. Mendis is a top class bwler. He doesnt turn the ball much(only enough) but because of his unique deliveries he is sometimes unplayable. As I have mentioned before, a guy who flicks the ball both ways will be a very difficult bowler because you cant pick which way he flicks. Wrist action is tough enough to decipher, but when someone just flicks it like flicking the striker in carroms its doubly difficult.

I dont think you guys realize how difficult it is to face him. Picking mendis flickers is very very difficult.

About other top bowlers. You might still pick Muralis doosra or warnes flipper but not mendis carrom ball or flicker ball which can go either way. Kumbles googly is the most obvious thing in the world n he doesnt even try to hide it. Funny how he runs in with that so obvious googly grip. His top spimnners are tougher to pick.

Well lets say until his mystery is solved he fully deserves the flattering bowling averages he has. I am sure anyone would have struggled against him. Atleast until they solve his mystery and it looks like its not going to get solved soon.

People who have played cricket can understand this. Take a tennis ball and spin flick it both ways underarm. Its extremely difficult to pick. You can try the carrom ball or doosra much easier bowling underarm. Probably then you might understand the dilemma of the batsman facing them. Its very difficult to slog a bowler if you have to pick him off the pitch and not from the wrist/fingers.

Yusuf got 14 runs of Mendis in IPL, but that was just an aberration. Btw his one six flew of the outside edge. That guy packs a punch. Yuvraj times them for sixers but Yusuf hammers em...

Its not like Agarkar picking 50 wickets super-fast. There was never any mystery about Agarkar, he was picking wickets but batsmen knew what was coming from his hand.

What seperates Mendis from most is his mystery.
 
I agree that its hard to pick Mendis at the moment. But wait for the Master - Sachin to come back and kick his ass all over the park. If Mendis can trouble Sachin in any of the upcoming series, then maybe he will get my respect. But i dont think thats gonna happen.
PS - Hope Pak loses the final today. Lolz!
