Started the game yesterday and spent almost 4 hours into it. This is a HUGE step-up from Metal Gear Solid 3 in terms of gameplay, which goes to say that a great deal of changes were incorporated in it. However, a lot of the story elements are now lost on me due to the time jump and the flashback in the cut-scenes aren't helping either. Nevertheless, I love the game. The new camo suit an ingenious idea and so is the Mark II. We can finally pause cut-scenes now, which is great. I'm almost towards the end of the first act and I have noticed that there are endless amount of troops being deployed. Is this the same throughout the game? I mean, when I played Snake Eater, there were limited enemies patrolling an area. Taking all of them out would mean no more enemies walking in. It doesn't seem to be the case with this game. No matter how many enemies I kill/subdue, more show up.
Anyway, the visual effects are amazing, but frame rate drops are quite persistent. This is where I wish it would have been on PC. Crouch walking was a much needed change, thank you for that Kojima. It seems ration now heals you and not replenishes your stamina bar. Shop for purchasing/upgrading weapons and ammo being integrated in the options menu is a superb idea. The cardboard box and barrel are hilarious means of stealth movement techniques. One thing I have noticed being consistent with these games (Metal Gear Solid) are the alert sounds and items drop sounds; they are always retained. It's funny to hear that alert sound on being discovered and having that question mark or an exclamation mark over the enemies head. It's feels like a homage to old school titles and surprising to see it still being used in Metal Gear Solid 4 as well.
