Checked the recording devices and everything seems to be fine.

Have you tried the audio troubleshooter?
Type troubleshooting in the start menu, and proceed from there.

Tired the audio troubleshoot ,it installed some fix but still not working .If i tried to record i get some kind of hissing noise will upload a small recording in some time.

Edit: I have recorded a file and have uploaded it.It seems like there is a lot of static .Here is the link Audio recording

Update.I reinstalled Vista and checked for mic,my bad luck is that the mic is gone bad .I had given the lappy to Toshiba as the lappy was heating.I guess when the technician opened for cleaning the heat sink he messed up the mic :(.I can use the external mic .Thanks for all the replies folks:D

Woah !!..you know what ..just when i clicked to open the thread ,I was thinking of telling you to check the mic or try another mic :P

and after the page loaded ,I see that mic has gone kaput ..

get a new one for 90-100 bucks .

I do have some el cheapo one.Its working fine.I had called Toshiba in the evening and told them mic is not working they said they need atleast3-4 days to fix it. I am not giving for repair.
