Hey guys,

I read sometime back that Micro Fibre cloth is now manufactured in India. Has anyone actually purchased it here? If yes, where (or what kinda shops sell them).

Thanks :cool2:

Me 2 trying to find one in chennai, i couldnt get yet... :(

Go to Spencer's Stores (Food world) or any decent departmental store, you will find it 3M brand there. (Rs. 30)

go to any 99$ shop.....ask for micro fiber cloth....they have it in the auto department....its the same cloth that intelligent ppl use to polish their cars...:D

but...its ****in xpensive...100 bux for 1 small cloth :(

Try the opticians guys,

What do you think those guys are cleaning the 20k Zeiss lenses with ? Definitely not yellow cloth or baniyan :D

Thanks for the info guys. Will try first at the local supermarket and then at an optician.

PS: This is for cleaning camera lenses. I actually already have micro fibre cloth which I got from US but want to compare with the ones available here :) If it is manufactured by 3M then I think quality should be good enuff. :hap2:

Chamois Leather is normally used by professional photographers for cleaning lens and it is available with any photo store. I always have a few pieces with me.

^^^ YUP thats right I have always used Chamois Leather to clean my Cameras Lens - since the early 70's. Easy to wash and reuse. If there is dirt on the chamois then it acts like a sandpaper so it has to be kept very clean.

EDIT: THANK YOU for mentioning Chamois.... I have a 18 inch piece and I had forgotten all about it - now I looked for it and found it at the back of my tools cupboard.... GREAT !!

I also have been using it since early 70's but never came across a piece larger than ~10cms. But why do we need a larger one?
BTW I think I can use it in lapping HS for cleaning the surface after washing with IP alcohol.

Yes, I am aware of Chamois leather too :) But I prefer Microfibre..

My personal opinion .... Having used both - I prefer Chamois for Lenses and MicroFibre for LCD screens. Chamois seems to remove greasy finger prints off a Lens surface very well.

:| Then I guess I need to go looking for better quality Chamois leather...the local camera guy has something costing 50 bucks...

Camera stores are worse then the computer hardware sellers in overcharging :D .... when I bought Chamois I used to buy the full skin of whatever animal the Chamois comes from (Sheep ?) - the single full piece which looks like a skinned animal is about 18 x 12 inches. I used to buy this Chamois piece for about 150/- from Leather goods sellers many years back. I have stopped Photography but I still have about a quarter piece leftover which I am now going to use.

Age ..... 16  .... reversed ..... 61
