Microsoft set to launch "Soapbox" within six months

Microsoft's alternative, called Soapbox, takes a similar approach to YouTube by offering homemade video clips, TV shows and a virtual cornucopia of streaming content. However, Soapbox doesn't just have to compete with YouTube, it also has to face stiff competition from MySpace and Google in user-generated content.

MSN Video once was the most popular Internet video site until fans of user-generated content propelled YouTube, MySpace and Google past Microsoft in recent months. Since March, the number of YouTube monthly visitors has nearly tripled while MSN Video remained mostly unchanged at less than 12 million users. MySpace video quadrupled to 17.9 million visitors a month and monthly Google Video users rose 70 percent to 13.5 million over the last six months, according to Nielsen//NetRatings.

hmmmm.. Microsoft always wants to take over internet gaints, to rein its control over internet.Whether its Live vs Google (serch engine),Xbox vs PSP(games),IE vs FF(Browser),Linux vs Windows (os),Myspace vs Wallop(social networking),Microsoft Antivirus vs none and now its trying to compete with no.1 video hosting site YouTube. You know in all the mentioned examples Microsoft is not able to surpass its competitors and its pretty much expected with Youtube.
