Windows 9 is clearly the next big thing that Microsoft is working on right now, and according to people familiar with the matter, the company is preparing an early 2015 release for the next full Windows version.

While there are a lot of rumors out there, Microsoft has remained completely tight-lipped on Windows 9 until now and the company’s CEO Satya Nadella says that information on what’s next for the operating system would be provided “in the coming months.”

Nadella made the statement at the company’s financial results conference, without disclosing any specific date on when Microsoft could break the news on Windows 9.

And still, according to speculation, Windows 9 is scheduled to see daylight in April 2015, with two beta versions likely to be launched before that. If everything goes according to the plan, the first preview version of Windows 9 might be unveiled by the end of this year.

Nadella’s “in the coming months” timeframe doesn’t say much and could even mean early 2015, when Microsoft is actually expected to be close to completing development of the new operating system.

Windows 9 is the OS version that could bring back the Start menu in Windows, along with an early version of Cortana, the personal assistant currently available on Windows Phone 8.1, which is expected to debut on the desktop in one future update of the operating system.

Mr. Nadella, have you ever counted on still how many users are yet using Win 7? Then how many of them have actually shifted to Win 8?...and you already planned for Win 9 release. :stop:

They'll stop supporting windows 7 completely so that consumers upgrade to 8.1/2 or 9 directly.
I think Microsoft is trying to be like Apple & Google. They want all their different OS's (pc, tablet & phone) to look the same and give uniform customer experience.

That sucks. They are actually forcing users to come out of their comfort zones and stick to upgrades. So it was win 8 and now 9 and may be in next 18 months win 10 WTF??
I pity if they ever try that to server os as well.

You guys are complaining about a new version :O I cant wait for a better look, new features and maybe even a notification centre and Cortana Digital assistant integrated!
