Microsoft decided to start banning Xbox360 with modified firmwares today.
While it's the same release date as Halo3 beta, it seems that people who didn't download Halo3 also get banned. They probably detect backup discs when you play 'em online (not confirmed yet).
Even people using the new firmwares with disc-jitter added get banned, so it looks like Microsoft found another way to detect it.
Just like on Xbox1 it seems Microsoft bans the console unique ID, not the LIVE user.

This will really prove whether Microsoft really wants to curb piracy. They failed to protect Windows from piracy which actually benefitted them (if there was no piracy, GNU/Linux would have been more popular!).
On XBOX 360, they have no such threat as GNU/Linux, so they can use their anti-piracy skills in full-flow.

BAH! i think as long as people can play em... i dont think it will matter to em playin online or not......

espicially in India....

also I am sure there will be a mod comin for this as well :P

Pity how many hardware must be getting banned on trial runs by the hackers :P

im sure the way ms bans these is by checking the fw n then banning the mac id of the 360, jus figure out how 2 change the mac id and u shud be back in business :P

What ???? There are people who actually risk buying a modded xbox360(that comes without warranty) ??!!!! OMG!!!

ehehe Believe me arrow...I know a lot of such fools who while trying to save a few bucks bot a modded 360 from da grey market and atleast 3 of them have FRIED  White Paper-Weights in their hands now :hap2:

This a good move, but as hmasalia said, most people simply don't care about online. Single player will suffice for them.

ROFL hahaha!!! jus wuts expected out of M$!!

maybe this might increase the sales of ps3's ????

Yeah, 'cause nothing shows your love and support for a company like indulging in piracy.

Actually, Sony does this too. In fact, on a modded PS2, you can't even get online, let alone getting in and then being banned.

^^I feel not being able to go online is better, Letting players go online and then Banning them is just the exact fu*ktard attitude of microsoft to show players whos boss and dissapoint them for playing a pirated copy of some kazzillion billion dollar game that the team of developers made....let alone it not being worth even 1 cent.

i am not touching a xbox with a ten foot pole till that red ring of death disappears which might be there forever so bah
