Microsoft's Windows 8 RT based tablets are finally out in the wild. The first two devices whose reviews are popping up all over the internet is the Microsoft Surface RT and the ASUS VivoTab RT Windows 8 RT based tablets. Let's see what they have in store for the customers.
Microsoft Surface RT
The Microsoft Surface RT is Microsoft's Windows 8 RT based tablet. Based on an innovative design (beautiful keyboard design as well), the Surface RT demands one's attention the moment your eyes fall upon it. Packing a 10.6" (1366x768) resolution display, the Surface RT is only 9.4 mm thick. The chassis is premium, being built of Magnesium. The tablet weighs in heavy at 680 grams.
Let's have a look at it's internal specifications:
As you can see, the Surface RT is no small kid. Packing the latest quad core processor from nVidia, the Surface RT packs 2 GB of RAM (enough we believe for Windows 8 RT to run smoothly). The 32 or 64 GB of internal storage can be expanded upon using a micro SD card. The battery is bit, rated at 31.5 Whr.
The Surface RT can be had for $499/$599 for the 32/64 GB versions respectively.
ASUS VivoTab RT
ASUS has released their own tablet packing Windows 8 RT. Most of the internal specifications remain the same. Let's still have a rundown, starting with the build of the VivoTab RT.
The ASUS VivoTab RT is smaller than the Surface RT. If you didn't look closely, you could mistake the VivoTab RT for an AIO PC. That is actually a complement to the industrial design that ASUS has come up with. Great job ASUS. The tablet is lighter, coming in at 525 grams only. It is also smaller (by nearly 1 cm) and thinner (8.3 mm thick v/s 9.4 mm thick) than the Surface RT. The build is a mix of Aluminium and Plastic. The display on the ASUS VivoTab is a tad smaller, at 10.1". The display resolution remains the same, at (1366x768). However, this time round the display is of Super IPS+ make, which should result in much better viewing angles.
As you can see, following Microsoft's tight guidelines the processor and GPU remain the same. RAM is 2 GB and internal storage either 32 or 64 GB. The battery is smaller, at 24.4 Whr. Maybe it has something to do with the smaller screen.
The ASUS VivoTab RT comes at a starting price of $599 for the 32 GB version, and $699 for the 64 GB version. Both versions include the dock.
