The 10.6-inch Surface, powered by Windows RT, will go on sale on October 26th and will be priced starting at $499 for the 32GB version without Touch Cover and a 32GB version with the Touch Cover for $599. Microsoft is also offering 64GB model for $699 with a Touch Cover included. The 9.3mm thin tablet weighs just 1.5lbs and includes a built-in kickstand and vapor-deposited (PVD) magnesium case.

Pricing is not too bad. The full Surface (x86) will probably be priced over USD $ 1000/- since they've already called it ultrabook class, and it will be on sale 3-4 months after the RT.

The interesting thing to see is how much space the RT OS takes up after fresh installation in that 32GB version.

$500 is a Good price considering 32GB storage, microsdxc slot, USB port, HDMI port, two 720P cameras and free MS office.

Surface Pro will be high, but this is a crowded market. Surface RT is a direct competitor to iPad and android tablets. Surface is not in the same niche. Its for people with umm "specialized" needs.

They already answered that query on reddit. Apparently you should have 22Gb ~ 25gb free space on the 32GB Surface after OS and reserved data. Luckily, it has expandable storage so the Surface team suggested using the expandable storage for additional user data like music, photo, movies, etc.
