Cortana, the digital personal assistant that Microsoft has made official alongside Windows Phone 8.1, appears set to arrive in more markets out there in the not-too-distant future, the latest reports on the matter suggest.
The feature was made available only in the United States for the time being, but Microsoft has already confirmed plans to release it in the UK and China later this year.
However, a recent article on WPCentral suggests that Cortana could be released in India too sooner rather than later, based on info coming from one of their forum members who allegedly works for Microsoft.
According to the user, Microsoft has already started the work on porting Cortana to India, though no further details on the matter have been provided, and a release date is not known for now.
This does not come too much as a surprise, since Microsoft did say before that it was considering launching Cortana in more markets around the world.
What remains to be seen is how fast the rollout begins, since the company has also unveiled that it has been working on designing the experience in line with what users in each market need, rather than simply translating Cortana word by word.
Recently, Microsoft has updated the digital personal assistant (server side), so as to add some more features to it, making sure that users do receive an improved experience with it.
Said user has also provided a list of user-reported changes for Cortana, which include more and enhanced News cards, better Sports cards, lines between cards, and a great deal of bug fixes. Improvements to flight tracking are also reported.
Furthermore, it appears that Microsoft is working on making Cortana’s voice less robotic, via some more “Jen Taylor voice smoothing.” The personal assistant should also become wittier soon, while expected to be able to respond with more jokes, songs and the like.
All these improvements in Cortana should be pushed to all users out there, which means that those living outside the US will also enjoy them, although only unofficially for the time being.
It should also be noted that some users have already seen some of these, though not all of them appear to have been implemented for now.
Hopefully, it won’t be long before the software giant provides some official details on its plans for new features in Cortana, and on when we might see it officially available in more markets out there, so keep an eye on this space for updates.
