Microsoft may not have taken care of the monster power brick, console overheating problems or the red rings of death but the company seems to have addressed the issue of the Xbox 360’s extremely loud DVD drive. Microsoft has replaced the current Toshiba-Samsung and Hitachi-LG drives with BenQ VAD6038 DVD drives in the Xbox 360 consoles manufactured in November 2006 onward. According to user reports, the new Philips-based drive is extremely quiet compared to its predecessor and even loads games faster. The fact that Microsoft is making hardware changes to its console results in a few questions. What else will they change? Maybe a bigger hard disk drive? Is the Zephyr really coming?

Exactly. I know for fact if the drive really improves on loading times, current 10 million X360 owners are going to get extremely pissed off. Consoles are not supposed to get any hardware upgrades.

Eh whats wrong in fixing something that had issues :S.

well then they should only fix the issue, not the loading times. That's like giving a PC more ram so it can play its games better...not much appreciated in the console business, the rest X360 owners will look 'inferior'...just my saying :P

Ahem well "better" hardware or upgrades are going to be common to consoles as well. Later this year all console makers are going to shift to 65nm which will allow for cooler and cheaper consoles. That's inevitable and as i see it this is hardly a upgrade. Had people not investigated it, this change would have went unnoticed.
