my 9800GT just blown out so i am looking for a mid range graphic card which can run on my coolermaster 500W extream power plus

my budget is 5-6k as i m not a big time gamer and play games rarely

my current config.

core2duo E4500
500GB hard disk
2.5GB DDR2 ram
samsung 22' full HD monitor

i can play at medium settings as i dont expect my budget allowes me to play at full settings

There is no need to change the PSU if it has worked fine till now with the 9800GT. That extreme power PSU has a bad reputation though. If you think it was responsible for the card going kaput, then you should get a PSU too.

My suggestion would be to get a HD5670 1GB card. wait for other replies.

check my config. i got 600 extreme PSU and it runs 57701GB fine with 3HDD (3.5TB) 8GB DHX ram, Q9550, 2 DVD RW, 2 LED Fans, 2 Normal Fans, 3 HDD Fans and all runs very much fine :)

its got bad reputation however its not that bad at all.

Go for the HIS IceQ HD 5670 (512 MB) HIS Radeon HD 5670 IceQ 512 MB Review - Page 32/32 | techPowerUp --> 4.4K + atleast FSP Saga II 400W --> 1.9K OR Gigabyte Superb 460W --> 2K, buy a PSU for your own sake not because we want you to buy one, a stable PSU will ensure clean power + reliable working of the system and your system will last longer.

I don't say the Cooler Master eXtreme series isn't bad it just has some niggling reliability issues + now in major metros it is possible for the masses to get good sub-450W PSU's from reliable manufacturers like FSP, Gigabyte, Corsair it is much better to go for these instead of a mess of wires with a faulty rating stuck to it (Cooler Master eXtreme power and GX power series).

Even a 512MB version should perform more or less same.

my SMPS is working fine it was my card which was faulty

anyway it looks like the comon verdict is 5670 ... how much can i expect a performance difference between 5670 VS 9800GT and the power consumption

do i really need to change my SMPS

thanks every 1 for all valuable advice

now i have got 2 options
1- sell my CM 500W [dont know for how much... any input will be gr8] and get Gigabyte Superb 460W + RMA 9800GT .....{will gigabyte be able to handle 9800GT}
2- buy 5670 and pair up with CM 500W

^^

No buy a AMD HD 5670 + Gigabyte Superb 460W or FSP Saga II 400W SMPS. It will fit in your budget maximum price will go upto 6.5K, if you wanted to RMA your card why did you wait for so long?

^ yup +1 for 5770 , true value for money .

but if you cant extend your budget get 5670 512mb .
i am on tight budget so it was a desperate buy as my card was gone [which will be RMAed now]

so no graphic cad needed as of now will just need a SMPS for my card

anyway for how much can i sell CM 500W extreme power plus

HD5670 will work fine on CM 500W since it does not require 6 pin power connector and all the power it will get through pci -e slot on motherboard. If you're going with 9800GT or 5770 you need to change your PSU aswell. :)

Go for the VX 450W then ~ 3.7K.

Selling your current SMPS will fetch around 1K-1.5K tops bruv, hope this helps :).

Me too using the same PSU with the current sig from past 1.6 years without any problems . You can buy another PSU , these days they are selling cheap . Last month i purchased a VX450 for 3.3K .

It depends on ur choice... If u prefer nvidia go for gts250. Msi gts 250 costs 6.2k.
If for ati
5670 fits the bill.
But i guess by spending 1k more get a sapphire 5770 at 7k.

^There is a difference of ~2k btw 5770 and 5670, if you want 5770 there are a couple of them being sold at TE market section for 6k
