Depends on what resolution you plan to game at. At 1024x768, I think the 8600Gt is enough/.
Last week, prices were
XFX 8600GT DDR3 - 5k at Prime-Lamington road
Gigabyte 8600GT DDR3 Turboforce edition - 5.2k Prime-Lamington. [Friend bought this]

Your choice of 8600GT DDR3 256 MB is good enough. I remember official XFX stall at last COMPASS quoting its price as Rs 5200/-+taxes.

Regarding MB, I would suggest that you go for any ASUS P5B series. These support both 533 and 667 MHz RAMs up to 8GB and up to 4GB for 800 MHz. These series also provides support for both C2D and Quad Core CPUs.

:)

3850 is best bang for buck:)

Abit IP35 pro or the Biostart TP35D2-A7 Deluxe seems a good deal for quads also the 3850 is around 14.5k last asked at prime instead of that u can pick up a 8800GT 512mb if u want. If u have anyone coming from US then pick up the 3850 best bang for buck. no point investing that much in a mid range ATI card in india

Dude,

P5B's d older chipset...

P5K's are the current ASUS cream...

Supportin 800Mhz RAMS're no big deal.. Current P35 chips support 1066Mhz Rams n above wen o'clocked...

8600GT 256GDDR3 costs arnd 5.4 - 5.8K.. also go for any mobo based on the P35 chipset if you are serious abt perfromance, this'd cost arnd 6K for enry level ones.. regarding 3850, i think you must better wait coz the 9600GT and 8800GS are just arnd the corner. lets c how these perfrom..
