I've been loyal to Airtel all this time..
Now seriously thinking of migrating to BSNL.
Any idea how much time BSNL takes after filling out the formalities?
I'd like to go for the 256kbps (2GB) (upto 2mbps :bleh: ) plan ..
And Airtel was using ADSL I guess...So, the modem I'm using for Airtel wouldn't work with BSNL .. right?

tee he hee ..

i think its 2.5 GB for the day ..

and bro .. BSNL CC sux beyond ur wildest dreams ..

in noida there are abt 700-800 ppl waiting to get their connection as the capacity has exhausted.. be sure to get ur airtel dc only wen u get the Bsnl one activated..

waise the dwntimes are less and i been happy since i got the connection in '05

O man... don't even get me started about pain in the a**hole while getting the connection... it's easily the most frustrating experience u'll ever have. It took them 2 months to give my connection. Although I must say their service pretty good. So go ahead if you don't mind the wait you won't be disappointed after you get the connection.

you can use the same modem for BSNL, it should work with couple of modifications in the configuration. Atleast my bsnl modem works for airtel.

If your need is just for downloads, then maybe switching to bsnl is a good option. but their upload speed is worse than a dialup, thats the reason I switched to airtel.

Well I get upwards of 180 kbps... and sometimes even 230... thats fine if you use public trackers.... considering the fact that your major concern for upload speed is torrents.

CC is horrible and getting the connection is a big pita (unless you have the right connections).
But once you do get it, it's smoothsailing throughout. Next to none downtimes and download speeds are always in excess of 100kB/s.

Also they increased the upload speeds to 32kB/s when they increased the download speeds to 2mb/s.

they didn't just "increase" its part of their contention ratio .

its 1:4 if you didn't know :)

Having the BSNL Home 500 Connection.

It has 2.5GB per month download/upload limit.

Unlimited downloading between 2-8.

With upto 2mbps speeds u can easily download 4gig in that 6hrs slot.

My download speed with 5-6 torrents is arnd 234kb/sec. Upload varies around 55kb/sec.

Its better option to stick with the airtel till the bsnl guy gives u the connection as they may take few months to do that. U can use the same airtel modem with some minor configuration changes.

Word of caution: In the event of any problem with the bsnl connection dont dare to even call bsnl helpdesk. they are hopeless. U are on ur own.....unless a wire is cut :P

Upload speeds are definitely 50K now.

Priyoban don't choke your connection by setting the download speeds to 'unlimited' in whatever torrent clent you use as doing this is a sure way to kill your upload speeds.
Set them at about 10-15K less than your maximum download speed.
