Okay so first thing, it it there yet? Last I heard MNP was supposed to be available in the metros beginning from the new year. I don't see anything regarding this.

I currently am on a Vodafone postpaid plan. I'm mostly going for TATA Docomo's prepaid plan. I just wanted to confirm that, does the basic prepaid plan have 100 free sms's every day without the need for a special pack? I think the first three sms's are charged and after that we get 100 sms's free.

Reliance also has really good sms packs, but it doesn't have a pay per second plan.

Any other network has decent plans?

Number portability is delayed until March and so is 3G until August.

Tata docomo has the plan as you mentioned without any packs. First 3 sms charged for the day, then 100 sms free for that day.

Reliance has 3 prepaid plans that you can choose from

1p/sec across india
50p/min across india
Rs 1/3 min across india

I would recommend you to get Tata docomo and do Rs 99 recharge, you get 5 lakh seconds to all local tata docomo numbers for 1 year.

Then do the 49 Rs recharge every month, which makes all local calls 1p/2 sec.
This comes to be a pretty cheap tariff overall.

I'll be pretty happy with basic 1p/1s plan since I don't call much.

It really sucks if MNP has been delayed till March. But are you sure?

Please do not consider tata docomo their network sucks big time. Also currently there is scheme for idea going where user gets 100sms per day and is 1p/sec. It also has an option of 40p/min across all networks my 2 cents.

Wait till MNP and the real fun will start.

When MNP is started, even Vodafone will(they don't have any other option!) offer cheaper tariffs than Docomo.

Blame the state-owned PSU's MTNL & BSNL for the delay of MNP. These state-owned companies are absolutely useless, its high time they clean up their act, or else get washed out by the competition. How long will they survive with the government aided funds & subsidies?

Well guys browse through the archives the MNP stuff started from 2004 and was supposed to be introduced in 2006 but till now there is no confirmation.

I guess it will go the CAS way. Just take the case of last year it was delayed atleast 3 times.

In serious sense i feel it is just the game the politicians are playing to play around with the telecom operators.

further god know what is true

Yeah I suppose the big players Vodafone and Airtel will have to bring good plans. Till then they are just leeching happily.

But I've been waiting too long now. I think I'll just shift to prepaid for the time being. Postpaid is turning out to be expensive for me.
