Mobile broadband type USB dongle ?

So I saw this Vodafone branded dongle at a friend's place which is detected in Windows as "Mobile Broadband" and the signal strength shows up in the notification area just like Wifi signal strength.
But those Micromax, Huawei, etc. dongles behave like USB dialup modem & hence needs to be dialled every time when connected.
Is there any such Mobile Broadband type dongle present in the market ?

Yes. Huawei E352, Huawei E1731 are two models I have tested and seen the same thing in them too.
 
It is possible with Windows 7 and above for some modems. Google for your modem with broadband keyword to see if there is support for the same.

These seem to be carrier branded (and possbly locked). Any general model ?
