Mobile Number ownership transfer

Hi.

Can anybody tell me the process of mobile number ownership transfer please. It is a Vodafone prepaid (Delhi NCR).

Actually, I bought a premium number in 2009 by paying premium but never used it. I kept it alive by recharging it religiously without fail but didn't use (my primary number is even better).

I posted it on Facebook and there are a couple of persons interested. But I am not going to sell it unless the ownership is officially transferred. I will also not give my IDs to any individual.

Just share the porting code with the buyer and ask him to visit he nearest dealer Airtel/Jio/BSNL with the porting code and his ID with the porting code the number will be activated in the buyers name. Just tell him not to port it to the same network.

This worked for me from Airtel to Jio. Jio never asked for old owners name or address they just want the porting code.

This has worked for a lot of people. Better than going through the hassles of ownership transfer.
 
As suggested by other easiest way is by way of MNP. New operator never asks for name of original owner, They just ask for Port Code and documents of new subscriber.
 
I do not know about Jio but when MNP was just introduced I hopped a lot between Vodafone, airtel, aircel and idea and they (new operator) always wanted the original owner's ID.
If it doesn't matter now, that's actually amazing.
 
I had an Aircel number under my mom's name. Eventually when Aircel was dying, I ported to Vodafone. While registering at Vodafone, I gave my details, and I now have the number under my name. So, MNP is definitely one of the route that you can explore.
 
+1 for MNP route mentioned here. Got my Aircel number transferred to my friend using port code to Airtel. She gave her details (don't recall) but card is officially under her name.

Yes, just 2 weeks ago. Brought a premium number and I was unsure how to get ownership. The dealer asked me to pay upfront, asked me to visit any serice provider outlet. Went to jio store and he sent me the porting UPI code. Asked to jio employees if it requires anything from previous owner and he said nothing required. They registered the same via my aadhar and asked for alternate number which gets all MNP updates. The number was originally from Himachal (BSNL) and took 5 days to get activated.
 
Thanks for this thread. I want to do this as my wife's prepaid number is her father's name and his father's number is in her name. I know it is khichadi but it was like he got his daughter phone first and registered under his name but no idea how his own phone number was registered under his daughter's name.

I will probably go with MNP route. Just that the operators always say that we have to take postpaid when doing MNP for 3-4 months.

No, they ask you for postpaid once as a formality (they have been asked to do so) but they do it happily give you prepaid sim. I have got two numbers ported recently.

I ported from airtel to vodafone last year and VI told me I need to be on postpaid only. Even when we went for the number transfer for my wife's and her father's number, VI tells they have to take postpaid and only then transfer (of ownership) will happen.

I went to airtel website and I am glad it shows option to switch to airtel prepaid. I am going to do this for my wife's phone once her recharge is near to ending.

Vodafone just told me they will not port into prepaid at all when I was coming from airtel. I had to resent and give in and got postpaid because my phone's 4G does not work on Jio and Airtel at all.
I now have doubts even about switching to airtel as if you see below link, you will see they just mention about doing MNP to airtel postpaid and not prepaid.

No need to specify anything at the time of MNP. Just bring Port code & Documents.
 
The golden era of buying premium numbers was the BSNL site itself . Buy and port after 90 days
i purchased premium numbers for less than 1k and AAAA continuous same number was so much in supply .
Even AAAAA came in sale every week with 1000s of them .
I had so many AAAA that i stopped using them :)
Those who do have my mobile number here know that i am using AAAAA now but also have a ABCDDDDEFG also with me
Those were the times ........:happy::happy:
