hi,
my sys config is: athlon xp 2k+,asus a7v8xmx, 512 mb ram

probz:graphics not coming properly,system settings shows 4 bit colour only in 800X600 res,can't even change it.reinstalling drivers/OS didnt help either.the grainy graphics comes when the login screen comes.

query: mobo/ram/ other hardware problem or software problem?

if mobo probz,then plz suggest a good mobo for athlon 2k+,as not enuf budget 4 whole new system :( .also sugegst a mid-range/value-range agp.. games played:cs/q3/dota.
 
Definitely software problem....Get the latest drivers and see if you can do a format install again. Also try getting the drivers to work in safe mode.

If you do need a mobo then get the cheapest possible one for 2k - gigabyte k7m333m-rz (or 400) something of that sort.

Uninstall your old video drivers from the device manager, install the latest drivers for Windows98/ME by downloading them here, or if you have Windows XP here.

Reset the default BIOS settings.

If it doesn't work, most probably your onboard video might be faulty. If its still under warranty, get it replaced or you can borrow a AGP card from a friend to make sure that it a video card issue.
