i recently won a 7600 GT in a competition :) ......but the thing is my mobo has an AGP 4x slot , and i currently own a fx 5200 card ....

i am so desperate to use the card ....it breaks my heart to see it just sitting idly on my desk :(

i just dont know wot to do...

1)shud i sell it and exchange for a 7600GT AGP ( that will give a lower performance ..wont it ? ) ..my mobo has AGP 4x slot ...:'(

2)or shud i buy a new motherboard havin a PCIe slot ... but the prob is that my current config is P4 2.66 Ghz ( no HT no dual core ...just plain ol P4 ) , 2*512 MD DDR ........is it possible to get a motherboard which supports this config ...

sum 1 plz help ......:sos:

heyy ... can us also tell me this ...
like there is a difference in AGP slots ...like AGP4x and AGP8x ...does this kind of difference exist in PCIe also ??

^ Physically yes, electrically not necessary. There are instances of physical PCI-E 16x slots still running at 8x (like in the case of older SLI/Crossfire boards) or even 4x in some boards based on old chipsets.

@Original poster : What socket does that P4 use? If its an LGA 775 based P4, get an LGA 775 based board with a PCI-E slot. Trade in your DDR sticks for DDR2, and you should be set to upgrade to Core2Duo if the need would ever arise.

man thats the prob ... i hav a 478 socket P4 2.66 GHz ... 533 MHz FSB ...
is it possible to get a mobo with this socket and PCIe 16x slot :help:

heyy ....i think i'll buy the 915GL , but i wanna ask one more thing ... i think my ram is DDR266 , and on the specification of the mobo its written DDR400/333 ...so will it support 266 also ?? :)

also if i wanna go with 880 pro ...the specifications only state that there is a PCI express slot ... so is it a 16x PCIe or of some other kind ...??

then you have to buy the 880 pro

I did not know the PCI-E speed thus had suggested against the 880 pro but since you have DDR266 no choice left except the 880 pro

I guess DDR266 might run, most manufacturers just mention the topmost speeds supported. The 880 Pro is an electrical 4x PCI-E slot, should be ok enough for a 7600GT. However i would seriously doubt you'd get either board easily.

Looking at your DDR RAM speed, it would be wise to look into a complete system overhaul instead.
