Hi,

i'm buying a new comp with a p2 x4 960t processor.

I need a decent motherboard which can unlock a 960t to 6 core. (i know there's only 30% chance of unlocking but i dont mind the risk)

So far i've considered gigabyte 880gm usb3 which is around 4-4.5k. Can that unlock a 960t ?

(if not please suggest any alternate mobo (reliable one) which can unlock / oc a 960t within 4k or 5k max.)

(i posted this in another thread but a member requested me to create a new thread instead, hence the new thread)

Well you've posted in the wrong section again
<
,you should've posted in cpu/mobo section.

Anyway get Gigabyte 880gm usb3-6k OR ASUS M4A88T-M-5.2k will be enough to unlock P2 X4 960,Also get CM Hyper 212 evo-2.1k to unlock and oc the processor.

oops. My bad. anyways, Thank you.

Btw, i just saw a better mobo, gigabyte ga970a d3. (89 dollars on newegg) so should be 4-5k again.

Does it support unlocking too ? has much better features.

Gigabyte doesnt mention unlocking anywhere on the website, how do you figure out if a mobo supports it ?

And are you sure the 880gm usb3 is 6k ? i saw 4.5k in a few sites and 89 dollars in newegg.

Mods please delete this topic (in 24 hours so i can read any replies) if its in the inappropriate place.

This is the link to the mobo i've mentioned-http://www.theitwares.com/gigabyte-ga880gmusb3-880g-hdmi-micro-motherboard-p-2383.html

It's said that the motherboard which has a SB710 or SB750 southbridge and ACC is supported can unlock the cores of cpu,so the Gigabyte ga970a d3 OR 880gm will be able to unlock the cores,it's a trick task.

Few links to how to unlock the cores, this almost sounds like event horizon

Why do you want mods to delete this topic
<
,mods will move the thread to cpu mobo section.

The 880GM USB3 should be around ~5k, IMO. If you plan to unlock you should get any mobo with 7xx SB or ASUS board with ACC option.

Ok, i have one last minute important doubt.

I never knew that these VRM's but happened to read about it today.

Turns out its an important thing to consider while overclocking

Both the mobo's i selected 880gm usb3 and 907a d3 have a 4+1 design. Would that cause any problems when i unlock/overclock ?

Is there any alternate mobo (within my 5k budget) which has 8+2 design preferably with cooling fins for the vrm's.

(it seems like only really expensive ones have cooling fins for vrm, so if there isnt a suitable mobo any links to make a custom vrm cooler to prevent the mobo from blowing up ?

dude buy an asus m5a97 pro/evo- 6.5-7k.. it has 8+1 vrm configuration and digi+vrm and many other features.. beats the gigabyte hands down..
