I am planning to build a file server based on Window Home server.

The most efficient option I can think of is the Atom dual core. But the problem is that most of the have only 2 SATA ports and a single PCI slot.

Are there any atom/ion based mobo which support port multipliers? AMD ones available?
If there are no mobos that support this feature then is there any with PCI-E slot so I can get a SATA controller?
Any other options would also be welcomed :)

Trying to get something like this to work.

This way even with 2 sata ports, I can have 10HDDs :ohyeah:

This system will be left on all the time. 24x7x356, so a minimal power foot print is very important.

Do not need processing power too, and a powerful IGP. This system will be a headless server without a keyboard/mouse/monitor.

This is part of the Stage 2 of my digital home :ohyeah:

Then why dont you do this.

Go for 2 HDD docks that take dual HDD's (Media was selling some) Attach them to your USB and that solves your problem then.

Wait, is this digital home what you were talking about when we once came to your home?

I just dont need external storage, I require a lot of extra functionality. Let me list a few :P

1. Automatic backups of all my computers
2. Some kind of data protection from disk failure
3. Dynamic DNS
4. SSL VPN for me, when I am away from home, to encrypt all my network traffic over WiFi and client network
5. Remote access to all my files
6. Download server
7. Huge file storage

Thats the list of things I really need urgently. Also I am stuck in Philippines till mid Feb. So planning :D
