Modem working with laptop but not with router

The ethernet light of the modem does not come on when connected to the wireless router through the LAN cable. It used to work fine earlier. I have tried different wires and two different routers too. I suspected that modem must be the culprit then. Problem is that the modem works just fine with the laptop. :O

Anyone faced a similar issue or can suggest something out?
 
is the modem connected to the laptop through ethernet or USB ? also plz mention the model of modem and router.

also check the type of LAN cable, modem to laptop needs a straight ethernet cable while modem to router needs a crossover cable. most modems automatically recognise this and change so they can work with any cable but some modems don't..
 
Modem to laptop through ethernet. I checked with different LAN cables too. It is a netgear JNR3000 router and a ZyXEL P600 modem.

Anyway the TATA guy came and replaced the modem. Working fine now. :D
