Laptops More lappie upgrade help!

OK so I got more RAM and installed it. Now what do I do with the new hdd?? I don't think I've thought this through properly :( I really want to put the new hdd in and continue using the lappie like nothing's changed. So I get the feeling I should use a Ghost image somehow...but I'm all frazzled right now with random work issues etc, so can someone pls help me out??

Basically lappie right now has a 40 gig hdd, which I want to replace with a 160 gb WD. How do I do this without having to reinstall everything from scratch..?
 
First install the new ram, boot up.If it works properly, make an image of the system disk,
Make same size partition on the new one(atleast the windows partition)
The restore the old one..
Best thing through all this, if anything goes wrong, you still hav the data/system intact in the old drive..
