Sire, go for any of the following motherboards --

Gigabyte GA-880GM-UD2H ~4800/- / GA-890GPA-UD3H ~??

ASUS M5A88TD-M EVO ~??

ASUS M4A89GTD PRO / USB3 ~9500/-

Hope this helps, Cheers!!

I have the Asus 880 menitoned above and it has a whiny choke. Also, Sideport (the reason I got it) is an eyewash. It is actually slower on sideport than on sharing main memory.

Maybe a lemon because of the choke, but if you can stand the thought of Rashi's service, good board. Able to hit 240HTT with no added voltage, and push a 2.6GHz Athlon slowpoke into a 3GHz well, less slowpoke.

I *touchwood* have had a great experience with my ASUS motherboard, it is a 2[sup]1[/sup]/[sub]2[/sub] year old M4A785TD-V EVO. It is still going strong.

Have never used the onboard IGP for strenuous tasks, always had a back-up in the form of a 8500GT. So no idea how effective SidePort is. Cheers!!

  • Go with gigabyte 890gpa ud3, Its a good solid board and you wont have to go through any RMA problems like Rashi either.

anything wrong with a 880gm #[member='ALPHA17'] , #[member='cranky'] ,#[member='stormblast'] ... i just need it to sit in a corner and render stuff

No Sire, nothings wrong if you go for the Gigabyte-GA-880GM-UD2H.

Just try to find the Gigabyte motherboards that have USB 3.0 and SATA III ports supported, the GA-880GM-UD2H does not have these features. It's elder cousin the 880GMA-UD2H support both and the GA-880G-USB3L, just has USB 3.0 support.

I think ASUS motherboards --

M5A88TD-M supports all these features right out of the box.

Hope this helps, Cheers!!

if you just need it for rendering i suggest you get a solid board like 890-ud3. it has heatsinks which will be usefull when using the system 24/7 not to mention when overclocking.

whats the price difference in the 2?

Get teh 880GM USB 3L which is similar to 880 GM USB3 which i have minus 2 RAM slots. Only issue is SATA layout. Unless you plan to use SSD, SATA II is enough. 8 pin power requirement for CPU. It has 125W support.

#[member='kippu'] Sire, I still support stormblast Sire's point of view that in the longer run passive cooling of the MOSFET's will be aided by the heat-sink / and heat-pipe solution found on the more expansive 890GX / FX series motherboards.

Considering long render times it will be better to get a motherboard with heat-sinks in places like the MOSFET. A goof option will be --

ASUS M4A88TD-V EVO ~6500/-

ASUS M4A89GTD-V PRO/USB 3 ~10000/-

Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3 ~9500/-

This motherboard looks mighty tempting -- GA-990XA-UD3. Has support for the latest AM3+ socket based processors apart from a host of other advantages, especially direct support for --
  • USB 3.0, SATA III
  • 990FX chipset [no IGP sadly on this]
  • Clean layout
  • Gigabyte, so worry free A.S.S. something I cannot say so flippantly about ASUS.

Hope this helps, Cheers!!

I am currently using Asus M4A88t-MLE with my 1055T i have also used it with a 1100T for quite a while works great. Bought it for 4800 i guess.
