CPU/Mobo Motherboard Not Posting

Hi All,

Firstly my system specs are in my signature.

I had recently got a E7400 45nm proccy from a fellow member, and on installing it, my motherboard didn't post. So i put back my old 65nm E4300 proccy and downloaded the latest bios from the XFX website. And i updated my system. After that i used the system for a while and then decided to check if the proccy works or not. The mobo did not post. So i put back my E4300 and started the machine and to my shock, that too did not post.

By not posting I mean that, there is no beep at all, the whole system freezes incl the keyboard, the monitor doesn't turn on and only the heatsink fan of the cpu and gpu runs.

The difference i could notice was that, before the cabinet fans along with the cpu's heatsink fan used to run, but now only the heatsink fan runs and the other 2 fans don't start. Also in both the cases, the keyboard too hung.

What could be the problem? Is the motherboard dead? or something happened to the proccy? I googled a lot, but couldn't find my particular problem. i don't have warranty too as its more than 3.5 yrs.

Regards,
Nj

see,

first of all 650i ultra should easily support e7400 .

Long time back i had a 630i with an e8400 ..

I think its either ram or mobo.

and one more thing...on the cpu socket see whether the pins are in alignment or not...

maybe they got damaged when u opened the proccy from the mobo...it can happen...so just check that.

First eliminate a problem of a 'dead board'. Get a working processor and try that in your CPU. Same with RAM.

@asingh : i know the guy from whom he bought the E7400 . Before he sold it he was using it and it was running properly.

And can u explain from what angle u eliminated dead mobo or mobo with an issue ???

and how many cases do u know of a dead core2duo ( excpet those which are torchered with high voltage ) ??

^^

I am not sure where you read in my post that I have eliminated the possibility of a dead board.? The reason I asked you to try different parts on the board is because that is only what you can do in the current scenario. It has to be trial and error. Regarding the possibility of a dead CPU, yes it can happen. There are many reasons --- transit, handling, forced docking, short circuit within the pins...?

Clear your Bios ;)

Take the battery out from the motherboard with the machine completely shut and unplugged , for 20 mins.

Then put the battery back and check.

This seems like your bios has just gone a little cookoo ..

cheers

P.S. is that cpu on the supported list ?? Please check :)

Guys,
Thanks for the suggestions.... I dismantled my whole system and put it back, and now the E7400 too is posting, i really donno what the problem was... but things are fine now...
