Guyz I want to know whether onboard Display Board is beneficial or not. I am comparing with two motherboard ASUS P8Z68V & Gigabyte Z68X-UD3R-B3... :hap5:

i wud like to go with onboard display one if u ask me regardless of the fact that i have a GPu..coz troubleshooting sometimes get's a heck lot of easier when u have onboard gpu....

thats right , onboard gpu is helpful during troubleshooting,, else it is pretty much useless if you have external GPU

Yes I have graphic card 5670... So the better choice is to have onboard display port..

Guyz I currently have Asus H67 Motherboard and have an option to replace it with Asus Z68 Motherboard.... Shall I go for it? My main purpose is office application, and I just want to be future proof.... I am getting the motherboard for 12.5k...

Out of the topic question...
I have original Windows XP on my Lappy, I want to have it installed on my computer, so that I can further upgrade it to Window 7 Original at half the price. Can I do so? If yes, How? Also How much can I expect for Windows 7 Home Premium Edition?

Did your XP come pre-installed with the laptop? If so its an OEM version and cannot be legally ported to another system.

For a non-K 2nd Gen Intel Core processor, H67 is ok too.

And the real benefit of owning a Z68 motherboard over a P67 one is not for having iGPU support for backup if discrete GPU fails.

It's' because of the ability to switch between iGPU and discrete GPU using LucidLogix Virtu.

And if someone asks why one needs Sandy Bridge iGPU even when one may have a good graphics card, please read more on Intel Z68 Express chipset and Intel Quick Sync Video. :)

Z68 offers access to HD3000 graphics having integrated graphics to serve as a backup to your discrete card & support for accelerated video transcoding, which Intel calls quicksync

1) Z68 has SSD Caching

2) Z68 offers access to HD3000 (in the case of the "k"-sku chips) graphics, allowing both:

-- integrated graphics to serve as a backup to your discrete card

-- support for accelerated video transcoding, which Intel calls quicksync

On caching -- there are several reports out there that indicate that the performance gain provided by the HD caching is minimal, some might say the gain is on the margins. I wouldn't pay extra for the HD caching.
On using HD3000 as a backup -- it's possible that your video card will fail at some point. It would indeed be helpful to have the onboard graphics just-in-case. Worth paying extra for? Doubtful; in a pinch, you could always run to fry's and snag some $20 no-name to use for the couple of days when you're RMA'ing. But we should note that video card failures are fairly rare.
On quicksync -- one note about quicksync is that it will only help at all with transcoding; it will not help in the common circumstance in which you rip a DVD or bul-ray. Quicksync offers a benefit only when decoding data; therefore, the benefit it offers is speeding-up the decoding of an already digitized file before transcoding it to another format or to a smaller resolution. This would be useful if you have a ton of high-res movies sitting on a HD right now and you want to be able to quickly download them to your iPhone or something like that.
