I would say Spice Mi-410. It is by no means Mid-range. While the prices may say so, the hardware is of high end.

Spice Mi-410 has exact hardware (CPU/GPU) as high end phones like Sony Xperia Arc, Play, HTC Desire HD, Desire S, Incredible S. Also it has 720p HD video playback and 720p recording. It does not feel like brick, but like desire hd. Solid feel in hand. 5 MP camera is decent but do not know how it compares with nokia. But it does have LED Flash for indoor and dark environment shots.

Already Spice Mi-410 users have updated their handsets to gingerbread using cherry mobile handsets rom (Which is also OEM device)

Spice Mi-410 is a rebrand of Hauwei and OEM product. It is available in other countries in different brand names. Even Olivesmart releasing in India is a rebrand of Huawei X6 and same model as Spice with different branding. Plus according to Spice Facebook, gingerbread is coming soon by end of July (Speculation)

I think the resale value would be less since given the manufacturers reputation. But you get more hardware for money when you buy Spice Mi-410 for only 13k.

I would say Defy. In your OP, you mentioned about falls and repairs and such. Spice comes without gorilla glass hence will need very careful handling. Defy on the other hand is extremely rugged. Drop it or wash it, it wont die ;).

Also, i dont think Spice will get CM7 or MIUI (IMHO, the two best custom roms out there) whereas Defy already has both of them. Defy ranks #3 in the no of user using CM7 amongst the handsets and that alone tells you about the popularity of the mobile and the huge community support it has. If you are on of those who doesn't want to flash custom roms, then Spice may be for you. But if you are willing to flash your mobile, the Defy is your best bet.

Defy is also very hard to brick. Just check the XDA page and you will see very few bricked defy's, if any. I myself in the past month or so have flashed my mobile close to 40 times testing this rom and that.

I dont think it will get official ICG (errrr, it will not) but it will get it through custom ROM'S, aka CM8 (Thanks for the correction dexBG :), didnt know the no was based on the Android version). Again, i am not sure about Spice regarding this.

If a person know how to use his/her phone to full potential then I suggest to go get what best he/she can.It doesn't make sense in keep purchasing the mid range phones, selling them off after few months and get another mid range phone by adding small amount.

A person may purchase a flagship phone like galaxy s2 @30k and sell it off after 6 month at 22k(considering the case of galaxy s I9000 which still retails around 20k after 1 year with launch price of 28k) and buy new quad core phone:S by adding another 6k.So after 6 months you will have latest phone flagship quad core phone.

Purchasing 15k phone and selling it off after one year may fetch you maximum 6k because the same new phone will be retailing around 8k after one year.

So it up to you if you want to use a flagship phone to full potential and stay away from the headache of selling off phones or keep purchasing and selling mid range phones. Higher the investment, higher the loss is.

(The faster you change your phones the lesser loss you will have like 4-5 phones in year)
