Yesterday we had the Samsung Fascinate, completing the lineup of American Galaxy S phones with Froyo. Today we have another phone joining the ranks of Android 2.2 – this time it’s the Motorola DEFY on T-Mobile. The Motorola DEFY is one of the sturdiest and most rugged Android phones around but it has been crippled mainly due to its operating system, Android 2.1. Today it gets a new breath of life. T-Mobile has officially announced that they are pushing out an over the air (OTA) update for the Motorola DEFY that upgrades the phone to Android 2.2.

The update brings the much needed optimizations and speed improvements to the phone, as well as the long awaited Adobe Flash support, and the ability to store apps on the SD card. Some additional features have been added with this update as well – added profiles, dialer search, a task manager, LinkedIn integration, increased security, and an updated Gallery.

The update is pretty big, at 112MB so make sure you’re on WiFi before you start the download or you’ll be eating up a huge chunk of your phone’s data quota. If you haven’t received the notification to download the update, head to Menu > Settings > About Phone > System Updates > and check for updates there. Let us know how it goes for you.
The article is about T-mobile but I think it will apply worldwide sooner or later.

Re: Motorola DEFY receives Froyo update

Too little, too late.

By this time, Motorola should've been ready with Gingerbread out of the box for the Defy.

Re: Motorola DEFY receives Froyo update

At least its a decent improvement from Eclair. (There are many who wont use custom ROMs and this is a good news for them)

Re: Motorola DEFY receives Froyo update

The funny part is Motorola India is clueless about such an update happening... I asked a pr guy of Motorola and he said check the website for details.. I checked and found out that asia pacific region is scheduled to get an update in 2nd quarter 2011, and guess what India doesn't figure in the Asia Pacific region....
