Indeed there are apps which suck battery without any reason. I have had to use the android assistant to kill yahoo mail, maps etc right when phone boots as i have found they sucking battery for no apparent reason (yahoo mail does i guess to check for new mail even when data is no on). Even today i see many apps starting at their will.

err..they may just be residing in the memory for easy and quick access.

your frequently/mostly used apps get loaded in cache for easy access. that may not exactly be responding in usage of battery.

^^You may be right in this but how do apps like Camera 360 pro (which i last started 20 days back just to see what it was ) come up in list of running apps ? Moreover the phone has been restarted few times in between so after the last restart i never started that app.

Once i found maps consuming lot of %age of usage even though i had not opened it, no data connection was available and no GPS was on :S

Hence i have kept this practice of killing apps when blade boots so those at least dont start at will (hopefully).

I think we can freeze apps right ? and unfreeze when required.

Just use Autostarts or Startup Auditor Pro to fix the startup issues.
