Yes. The wheel is misbehaving. It sometimes scrolls up when I try to scroll down, and vice versa. The mouse is about 2.5 years old. Is this issue addressable, even with some jugaad, or do I need to go for a new mouse?

My usage is only limited to lots of browsing, and I use the mouse only for scrolling, and to an extent right click, and to a much lesser extent the left click. The wheel is also used a lot for mouse gestures during browsing, like clicking on the wheel :D Otherwise I am more of a keyboard person. No gaming involved at all.

the mouse has lived it's days. get a new Logitech mouse for 350 bucks. Will last atleast 2~3 years. It has got tilt wheel feature too and is 1000 dpi precise.

yes mate as dOm1naTOr have said your mouse is breathing its last breath and time have come for it to RIP.

If your like disassembling things, then open your mouse, an clean the mouse scroll wheel. there is a mechanical sensor to which it is attached, it might have disconnected from it. check and play with it. It may work. Else its shopping time :)

Alright, let me try experimenting with dissecting the mouse first. I also wanted to ask what would be a good option. dOm1naTOr has suggested the Logitech, I am particular about the wheel not dying on me since I use that a lot, more for clicking than scrolling.

i remember i had bought it for 375

If Op has 650~700/- budget, then get the Gigabyte Gm6800. Its gaming class mouse with 5 button and dpi switching. The back/foreward button is really useful for browsing, and once get used to it, its hard to use one without those :)

It has 3 yrs warranty too.

features:

fits perfectly in your palm

rubber grips

good feet for gliding

5 button + 1 dpi switching button

1600, 800 dpi switchable

USb plug and play

but no tilt wheel :(

Actually I am not a gamer - not even a wee bit, so am not sure I will really need a gaming specialty mouse. Budget is not an issue, longevity, comfort and of course usability are.

Also, what exactly is a tilt wheel? Is it different from the regular wheel?

tilt wheels can scroll up <-> down like normal, but also can be moved left <-> right for horizontal movement. you move it left/ right with your finger.

GM6800 is not just a gaming mouse. Its an extremely comfortable high quality mouse with foreward/back button and a very glide like smooth movement due to its larger feet. It has rubber grip for continuous usage for hours. Its worth every penny. Moreover it gas 3 year warranty too.
