Moving from Windows/Android to Apple Ecosystem - Need advice !

Alright, so here’s the deal—I’ve been a hardcore Android and Windows user for years. Honestly, I’ve never been a fan of iPhones/macs, mainly because of the closed ecosystem and, let’s be real, the whole “show-off” factor some people buy it for. That just doesn’t sit right with me.

When it comes to laptops, I’ve always stuck with Windows. Currently rocking a Samsung laptop, and while it’s great in many ways, the battery life sucks.

But then… I had this random thought: Should I give the Apple ecosystem a shot? ‍ And now, my brain is in complete chaos.

Here’s why:
  • My work profile has changed, and most of my peers are using MacBooks and iPhones. It’s not like I feel left out in a bad way, but there’s that tiny 10% feeling of, “Hmm, maybe I should try it?”
  • Battery life on Windows laptops hasn’t been great for me (though that might change in the future).
  • I don’t want to switch to an iPhone (not yet, at least), but I do want to see if macOS suits me.
So, here’s my plan: I found a used M1 MacBook (4 years old, 8GB RAM) for ₹35K. Since I only need it for office work, I don’t want to spend too much. I’m thinking of trying it out for a couple of months—if it works for me, great! If not, I’ll just sell it off.

What do you all think? Should I go for it? Any advice from those who’ve switched from Windows to macOS? Will my Android and Windows laptop will ever forgive me for moving away from them???

I do have Office 365 subscription. Hope that will allow me to download it on Mac as well.
Android is better than iphone if you need more control. Macs are better than Windows.
See the only thing is if I shift to MacOS, sooner or later have to take iPhone as well to have ecosystem benefits. While I do love Android, but eventually thats going to happen, IF I make the shift!

Guys, took the plunge and got M1 ( I know its an old machine but I dont want to spend much for experimentation) and I am really amazed by the swiftness which macOS works!

I was using i7 laptop and still, I can feel how snappy a 4 year old mac machine is!
Will keep using for few days and see if I really want to shift to macbooks or not!
Thanks all for your insights!

PS: Please share some productive apps, which I can use or some tricks/tips. :)

Command + Space for launching anything and everything. Won't ever miss the start button.

Learn the trackpad gestures. You will be a pro in No time.
The amount of gestures and shortcuts offered natively in MacOS is insane.

Raycast! And Maccy

Adds some fun functionality to Mac. FWIW, I still feel windows to be more flexible. This after two years of using both. If I need to work on something that needs jugaad type of work flow, it is always windows.

But if you want to stick to basics, and do not much like fiddling with registries, and all, MacOS is kickass!
