I'll be moving to BLR in DEC/JAN for my 1st job :)
location is whitefield
Having never been to BLR, wanted to ask a few things:

How much before shifting/where should I look for accommodation? (upto 10k/month or 20k/month if 2 ppl can stay)
How far away is the city from Whitefield?
How near is the nearest residential area to whitefield?
Do I need to budget for a car as well, or is public transport good enough? (not comfortable with bikes, dont know how to ride them either :) )

Congrats on the job :) Not too well versed with the areas, but keep in mind that Bangalore has probably the highest petrol rates in the country. Oh, and the worst traffic sense. :D Drive a car at your own risk.

Whitefield is far far away from main city, the location around whitefield is well connected with Volvo AC buses and you will get one every 5-10 mins from whitefield to other areas during peak hours but at night the frequency is less, so transport shouldnt be a problem.

Whitefield itself is a residential area now with availability of many apartments, else you can stay near marathalli,brookefields,kundalahalli..

1) You will get 2BHKs within 15k in Marathalli / Kundalahalli

2) Given the traffic, Whitefield is quite far from the heart of the city. From a place like MG Rd, it would be around 18-19 kms.

Welcome to bangalore. I stay in whitefield and honestly compared to where i lived before, its a pretty sad place. Its around 20 odd km from the heart of the city and there are all sorts of issues but if you work in whitefield, you better stay there else you'll spend most of your day commuting.

You can get 2bhk's starting from around 10 grand in whitefield itself if you look around. If you have bigger budgets, you can get better places.

Good availablity of public transport to the city is a decent deal I guess

Hope it has decent electricity and water supply..

Is it easy to find 2bhk's, or should I start looking online 1-2 months before actually shifting?

Hi,

There are lot of pg(paying guest) rooms which provide food as well and are cheaper incase you want to save upon(this is what most people do usually) at brookfield(near whitefield) .

As far as the distance goes the major central of bangalore is/was majestic(area name) which is around 1 hr bus journey from brookfield , from there all the areas are pretty nearby . I doubt you will get any time to roam on weekdays much so distance should not be an issue .

72 for regular, 74 for premium. Road taxes are the highest in the country - around 20%

Volvo buses are a decent way to commute if you don't have a car

Finding a house shouldn't be that difficult.

There are power outages of at least 1-2hrs a day so make sure your building has generator backup.

There's no government water supply. Most folks rely on borewells and tankers. Water supply is never a problem though!
