Budget 51-70k Moving to desktop after ages - need help building PC

Hey TE Folks - I don't even remember when the last time I owned and used a desktop computer.

I am now planning to get a budget gaming pc and need Ur help and clarifications.

Total Budget - 60K (monitor not needed since I already have a 2K LG monitor, Keyboard and mouse also not required)

Budget to start without GPU - 32K (will add GPU later after few months)
Budget for GPU - 28K

Required components
- Processor
- Motherboard
- RAM
- PSU
- MiniATX cabinet
- NVMe SSD (512gb to start with)

2nd Phase
- GPU
- CPU Cooler

I dont plan to use this desktop for gaming until I add a good GPU, when I say gaming its for casual games, for AAAs I have a PS5

1. So what would be the ideal config for my PC build requirement? Intel or AMD ?

2. Will the stock CPU cooler not be enough for now and I really need an aftermarket CPU cooler to start with? or I can add it later along with GPU ?

3. Should I go for a DDR5 supported board or DDR4 will suffice for 2K 60fps gaming ?

4. Which would be the best B series board? I don't need the Wi-Fi supported board since I will be using wired connectivity, would prefer a 2 x M.2 slot.

5. Pls suggest good Mini ATX cabinet (RGB not really needed) - due to space constraint .

Honestly, with this budget, it would be hard to get even 60 fps at 2k in the modern AAA games. You would either need to use upscaling or use lower quality settings.
 
I'll be honest with you - the budget you have isn't really the kind you splurge on 2K 60fps AAA.

1. AMD is fine on a budget. Look at the 5600X - a dated CPU for sure, but still very competent. Amazon lists it at ~13K.
2. B450M with a BIOS update is great for your use case. You can pick one up for ~5K.
3. The third thing you buy new is RAM. You'll need DDR4 8x2, which is good enough for most games. If you're running professional applications as well, get a single 16GB stick and upgrade it later if you want to. A Corsair Vengeance LPX 16x1 kit is roughly 3K.
4. Finally, the power supply. Power supplies work best at 50-60% load. So get one that's 650W, gold-rated - Gigabyte P650G is 80+ Gold, modular and only 5K.

Total Spent: 27K.

Get a used Nvidia RTX 2080 / 3070 / 4060, with minimum 8 GB VRAM.
If you're really strapped for cash, an AMD 6600XT by Sapphire can be had for 20K. It's not the best, and it's not AAA, but it's AA and it's cheap. Go for it.

Total Spent: 55K.

Storage is not a concern - get a solid 1TB and upgrade later. Crucial P3 Plus is 1 TB, M.2 and only 5K.


Peripherals:
The HPGK320 is a great mechanical keyboard. I got it refurbed for 1K. You can find a mouse somewhere for ~600-800 as well.

All of this is within 60-65K, and should last you at least five years.

1. No one can actually can answer that apart from yourself. For what games are you building the PC for and what is your target res and fps?
Is there any productivity apart from Gaming you are going to use this PC for ? There is no direct answer unless you provide some more details whether its an Intel or AMD
2. From what I know and heard, Stock cooler isn't really enough for Indian summer unless you live in some hilly places, so better to get a CPU cooler.
3. Both will do for 2k 60 FPS imo , question is if you want an upgrade path then AM5 is still supported by AMD till 2026-2027 iirc.
4. B650 DDR5 if its for AM5 build. Below are some B650 videos ranked from Entry level to high end.

5. I will let others reply on the cabinets.

Does your budget include the monitor?

You should go the AMD route, as that'll allow you to game at low settings till you get the GPU.

I don't think you'll be able to get an AM5 (DDR5) rig for 30k, so you'll have to get a very minimally upgradeable AM4 setup. (which is what I did a couple of months ago.)

An AM4 motherboard with dual M2 slots, AMD B550 chipset will set you back by about Rs.9000. A B450 board with only 1 M2 slot will cost about Rs.6000.
An AMD 5500GT CPU will cost another 10k.
16GB RAM - about Rs.4000
Case - Rs.3000
Power supply -750w+ from a good brand - about Rs. 6000

You won't need an after market cooler.
2K FPS gaming will depend on the game, the GPU and the CPU, so it's hard to say if this config will meet that requirement.

Which GPU are you looking to buy? If it's not too power hungry you could save about about Rs.1000-2000 on the power supply by opting for a 550 or 650w one.

Thats about Rs. 32,000 at the upper end.
If you're buying storage, a 1TB SSD comes for about Rs.5000.
A keyboard mouse set will cost about Rs.1000.

If you're not in a hurry, then wait for the next sale and pick up your system then. You'll save quite a bit.

I already have a PS5, this desktop is mainly for home usage for myself and family members mainly for browsing, MS office and media consumption.
Gaming on this PC will be for casual games.. for AAAs I anyways have a PS5

Then there's no need to even spend 32k on the gpu. Better to spend more on the other stuff. Casual gaming will be fine even on last gen budget cards like 6600xt or rtx 3060

As TechNick said above it depends on the temp in your area. For most of India it won't be sufficient in summers.
But you don't need to spend too much for a decent Cooler. Around 2-2.5k would be enough for a decent budget cooler.

Both are fine, but for your budget, it wouldn't really be possible to get a good ddr5 system.

I am looking at RTX 4060 or 4060Ti

SSD for now I am fine with 512gb

I am from Bangalore and its little manageable during summer

So until I don't game and add a GPU, the stock CPU cooler would be fine right?

Please don't get the 4060, it's plain bad from what I heard. Reason because only 8gb and most games are more VRAM demanding now a days, Get 6700 XT 12gb (the one with 2 fans) or 6750xt 12gb , you can find that for 18k ish in second hand market with some warranty. You can cut down on the Cabinet and SSD as you mentioned.

A bit over your budget, but I think you should get this at least minimum. If you replace the 4060 with a second hand 6700xt/6750xt then it cost around 60k in total

Also forgot to mention one thing
Since you wouldn't be getting a GPU at first. R5 5600 requires a gpu to output video. So you would need a cheap gpu. You can get a 1500 rs gt 610, that would be enough for video output, till you get a gpu.

The other choice would be to get a R5 5600G, which has an igpu and costs a few hundred rs. more. But it performs around 10-15% less than R5 5600 and I think the trade-off wouldn't be worth it

It doesn't have an igpu as well. So you would need a temporary cheap gpu. And yes it has similar performance, you could go for it. I just prefer amd, so suggested it.

Also, no need to go for 5600X, the 5600 non X is cheaper and there's only 4-5% performance difference at max. Not much noticeable
 
Get this, wait for the next Amazon sale if u can, you might get the CPU for cheap, I got 12400f for 6500/- :P
12400f no iGPU though. 12400 with igpu will cost u 12.5k
