Hi guys,

I recently bought a new HDD and would like to move everything from my old HDD to the new one with a minimum of fuss and pain. My question to you guys is:

1. Is it possible to move Windows XP from one drive to another without much problems
2. Does it make sens to do this? - Its currently on an IDE drive with a 2 mb buffer, my new drive is a sata with a 32 mb buffer, and I have put no partitions on the new drive.

Thanks all.

Should be possible without problems. IDE to SATA should give you some improvements at least :)

So long as one of your drives is a seagate, use the free Seagate Disc Wizard :) Its based on Acronis True Image and allows partition backup and recovery to a different disk :)

Seagate Technology - DiscWizard

Yeah it's possible I have recently done it use, trial version of Acronis Migrate though I have done migration from PATA to PATA but your case will also work fine. Once your XP detects SATA it will upgrade the disk drivers itself else do it manually.

I usually save the bookmarks using any browser and change to OS. Pretty happy with reinstalling the utilities as they have newer versions or overall get rid of the ones you don't want.
