Mozilla Firefox 5.0 Final Version Released

Well whatever people are saying there IS a definite point that firefox has severe memory leak issues. I find it using as much RAM as the rest of the processes put together even with only two tabs open. It severely lags my whole system at times and the CPU usage goes to 100%.

I found one way to reduce the issue though. I reduced the priority level for firefox-bin.exe to below other applications from my system monitor. That way it cannot screw up the rest of the system :)

Just got auto updated to FF 5 and guess what, most of my extensions are not compatible. I guess I'll have to install the 'compatibility add on' to run them all.

Just installed FF5. Here are my first thoughts:
  • As compared to FF4, it seems alot faster at loading the Css and content.
  • Start up time has reduced a little.
  • All my add-ons (adblock, fireftp, DTA, IEtab, etc.) are compatible and haven't raised any question.
  • AppTabs is a nice.

People were asking about FF memory footprint, so thought i would just check. Here are the results:

1 light Tab (TE.com): 127MB of ram /2GB Total

4 Tabs (including topgear.com): 167MB of ram /2GB Total

Although, my system isn't showing any bad signs, I guess this won't be good for many low-end office systems.

Opinion:

FF is awesome for compatible systems with good config (home pc) while Chrome is unrivaled for low-end configs (office pc).

Installed ff 5. Just did not like it.
Installed 3.x and then you just start to appreciate how earlier builds were so this means that the developers have screwd somewhere. :S.
Also softpedia is also giving their 6 beta so they for sure know they did not make it right.

It's been long since I used FF3. Can you kindly elaborate your opinion?

^ its more with the add on compatibilities.

i use FF only for downloading from mediafire so IDM add on comes in handy where a right click can make you queue the downloads.

this was not possible in version 5.

also my personal experience iget alink kprepared much quicker from mediafire when using FF 3.x

I received the update notification last night and I updated my FF4 to FF5.

First impressions:

  • No visual change, or nothing at least that I noticed.
  • Only four add-ons were marked incompatible out of 14, out of which two were disabled by me anyways (HP web printing add-on for my printer and IDM helper add-on).
  • There is tremendous speed improvement between FF4 and FF5. For example, I was checking out "Speed Reading test" from Microsoft for IE9. IE9 used to finish it in 7 seconds making it the fastest, followed by Chrome 11 seconds and FF4 35 seconds. Now FF5 finishes it off in the same 7 seconds as IE9. I don't remember what Sunspider score was on FF4 on my machine, so haven't checked that for FF5. But overall, both web page rendering and interface is much snappier than FF4.
  • Loading time also seems to have improved, while memory usage has gone down. Earlier with 10+ tabs (+ 2 app tabs) overall usage of my FF use to shoot up at 750mb, now it's hovering close to 400mb only. If these figures look too much to you... firefox has tendency to use more ram if your system had more ram and free enough to spare. On my HTPC (with 2GB ram) FF4 never crosses 350mb.

^ What blurry font issue? Are you using ATi card (HD5xxx/6xxx)? I had text and window interface getting blurred issue in Firefox (both 3.x & 4) due to MLAA getting enabled in Catalyst panel.

MS -- really appreciating Mozilla or just teasing them......

".....The tradition began in October 2006, when the Internet Explorer 7 development team sent a cake to Mozilla for successful shipping Firefox 2. Given the state of the browser wars at the time, many joked about the cake being poisoned, while others teasingly suggested that Mozilla send a cake back along with the recipe, in reference to the fact that the organization produces open-source software. The IE8 development team sent another cake on June 17, 2008, when Firefox 3 was released. The last cake was sent in March 2011, after the release of Firefox 4."

Microsoft sends Mozilla a smaller cake for Firefox 5 release - TechSpot News

Microsoft sends cake to Firefox team with each release.

Mozilla accelerates release cycle.

Coincidence? :bleh:

Firefox team just loves cakes. Now wait till Sorcy comes here screaming, "The cake is a lie!!!" :P

--- Updated Post - Automerged ---

Update:

One of the add-on that was disabled by FF5 due to incompatibility has been updated already (Firebug). :D
