Mozilla has finally taken the plunge and released the first products based on their HTML 5 based Firefox smartphone OS platform. Mozilla has taken a budget market approach, not wanting to meddle with the biggies right now. Well it makes sense to see some new players in the budget market. It only keeps getting better and better for the majority of us! The competing partners are ZTE and Alcatel.
ZTE Open

The ZTE Open is a 3.5 inch Firefox OS running smartphone. Stop. That's all there is to impress. The OS is the single main attraction from this smartphone. Read on.
ZTE Open Specifications

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM7225A

  • 1 GHz ARM Cortex A5
  • Adreno 200 GPU
  • 256 MB of RAM
  • 3.5" HVGA (480 x 320) display
  • 3.15 MP camera
  • 180 MB of internal storage
  • expandable up to 32 GB via MicroSD card
  • 1,200 mAh battery
  • Mozilla Firefox OS

As you can see, this cute smartphone really doesn't have much going for it. The only way anybody would even consider buiyng one is if it's priced ridiculously cheap (which we are really hoping for). Nevertheless, still await the first reviews to see how useful this phone and OS really shapes up to be.
Alcatel One Touch Fire

Alcatel has made an ugly smartphone. Their One Touch Fire is plain ugly compared to the ZTE Open (which at least has a definition of cuteness). Forgive me for being so harsh but Mozilla's new platform will hardly create a first impression with such measly products. Nevertheless.

Again the same 2008 materials. Maybe the Firefox OS is so light that it doesn't require much to run on. But now we feel that it's simply stripped bare and has only the essentials, making us wonder why Firefox wants to introduce a new OS at all.
