I'm planning to buy a desktop replacement laptop around a budget of 70k in kolkata.Portability & battery life is not an issue.After months of research & trolling in various forums i'v selected 3 models.

1st choice : MSI GX660

LCD 15.6" 1080p

AMD HD5870 1G gddr5 VRAM(Drool,main reason for buying this beast)

CPU i5-480M

Memory 8gb DDR III 4GB

HDD 500GB (SATA) 7200rpm

DVD writer blu ray combo

WLAN Intel Condor Peak 1000 1x2 (802.11 b/g/n)

Battery 9 cell

Above all 2 years Warrenty

IT Arena E-Mall quoted me a price of 70,000(+4 % VAT).

2nd choice : DELL XPS 15 l502x (around 70k but not ready for online purchase,only base models are available at stores)

I'll use the laptop for general tasks like browsing,video skype,watching movies & GAMING(main reason).I wanna play all recent games at medium to high detail settings.I dont think i'v any need for core i7,what do you guys think?

Another thing,is laptop really that bad for gaming? I'v heard gaming laptop dies fast coz of the heat issues,i would love to use at least for 4 years as i'm spending that much. Waiting for your valuable suggestions,thanks.:)
 
It will last for more than 4 years .but you must give some extra care for laptops . buy an extra cooler.

that GT 550M is an overclocked version of GT 525M.
 
Been using the N53SN myself. It offers the best bang-for-buck. As far as hardcore gaming is concerned, of the 3 laptops you have listed, the MSI unit is the best. Till the nvidia 560m trickles in, theres no other gaming option at that budget. In India i.e.
 
I wouldn't buy any of these seriously, the GT550M will give you null gaming satisfaction, HD5870M is still better.
 
If gaming is what you want, nothing comes close to a 5870. Unless you get a 560 Ti grade card :)

However, I will recommend GX640 which has a 5850 and costs around 55k+ but still has a core i5 + 4gb ram.
 
Yea, the performance difference between the HD5850M and HD5870M is not much, and most definitely not worth paying 15k extra. the 55k lappy is a much better deal IMO.

I had considered GX 640 also but after reading that it has serious heating issues, i scraped the idea of getting it.

Cons :

- Screen not very bright

- Weaknesses in the case

- Always clearly audible

- Palm rest gets warm

- GPU tops 100°C under full load :O

- Poor battery life

- Dreadful keyboard

- Mediocre sound qual
 
Why dont you check hp models? Hp DV6-6017tx has i7 sandy bridge + hd 6770. better than the asus or dell for sure. also it is available for 53-55K, i feel this this really vfm.

if gaming is important then GX 640 is perfect. Else you can check this hp model also.

for 15k extra gx660 will come with blu ray drive , USB 3.0 , eSata , way better speakers on the laptop, way better cooling n chassis, better GPU (difference of 2k 3D marks) 4GB of extra RAM , dual Hard drive bays , 16:9 1080P display (16:10 on gx640 looks crap to me) , 9 cell battery (6 cell battery on gx640 will barely last for an hour) , and some flashy lights on chassis too lolz :bleh:

GX660 can last 4 years due to all these features but gx640 wont
