How is MSI in the motherboards department? And how is their service and support in India? (New Delhi specifically, if someone knows).

My parents' desktop PC's motherboard has crapped out and the local repair guy is suggesting an MSI G41.

The computer's specs: Intel Pentium D 2.8, NVidia 7300LE, 2GB DDR2.

If I opt for a G41, it'd require me to buy new DDR3 RAM. Although he's willing to take my DDR2 2GB for Rs 500 so that's not too much of a problem.

So should I look at other options like Gigabyte or ASUS or something or should I go with this itself?

Or should I skip the whole thing and go with Intel?

take a look @ GIGABYTE options as MSI aftersales service is not too great for low end motherboards...

Gigabyte g41 are easily available in nehru place , they are better , 500 is too less for 2gb ddr2 , you can get more by selling in the TE market or get a board with ddr2 support.

Is it beneficial for me to get a DDR3 RAM board? Considering my parents will be using it for light browsing/small casual games (like Zuma etc).

Which is the best DDR2 board for less than Rs 2500? Keep in mind after sales support in New Delhi.

Errr... You are getting a new mobo right? DDR2 and DDR3 mobos costs the same. DDR3 memory costs lot lesser than DDR2 these days. So going with a DDR3 mobo is a logical step.

GIGABYTE TECHNOLOGY Socket 775 - Intel G41 - GA-G41MT-S2P (rev. 1.3)

GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 775 - GA-G41MT-S2P (rev. 1.3)

Gigabyte and Asus are Tier-1 manufacturers. So go with them if their pricing is similar to MSI.

Kingston 2GB DDR3 RAM costs Rs.750-800 these days.

Considering that even Dynet 2GB DDR2 costs 1k you should be able to sell your RAM stick for ~Rs.650

Oh okay, it's been years since I made/researched about an assembled PC so my knowledge is a bit rusty. I'll ask for a G41. The guy was selling Kingston 2 gig DDR3 for 1100 O.o. Is it available for ~800 online anywhere?

Go to nehru place , you will surely get gigabyte g41 and you can also sell the ddr2 ram to some repair shop there for around 600-700 and get new kingston ddr3 for 800
