hey

i am facing this weird problem for quite long. but now i am frustrated with this.

i have mtnl 512 K UL combo plan in delhi. wireless router (trendchip)

Net connection frequently disconnects (link light on router blinking rather than stable) without any specific time pattern. connection gets ok if i engage the phone for few mins by removing receiver of phone.

mtnl ppl have tried changing modem, have checked line, but couldn't do much.

please somebody guide me as to where may be the source of problem ?

same problem my frnd is facing in malad, mumbai ...

he is using wired D-link router... MTNL ppl come and check and go ...

It works fine for a while .. then again problem continues...

dont know the solution yet ???

TE ppl help!!!!!!

This is a common problem in MTNL or BSNL for that matter. It is caused by the amplitude of the signal in the wires that these people provide. Basically "Aapka signal weak hai" , thats the bullshit verdict that was given to me when i decided to solve this problem.

MTNL n BSNL place their distribution centers far of from your home while private operators have their fiber optics coming pretty close to you place. So these copper cables come to you place, these have a certain amount of resistance which can only carry signal upto a distance. . after which the signal strength starts to decrease. .that is why you face frequent disconnections.

^ The reason your connection is stable when you HANG UP your phone is that the line strength gets dedicated to the broadband and not the telephone. . that is why some users suffer from disconnection specially when you get a call.

ALL IN A DAY's WORK for these useless ISPs. .

This is becuase many users have parallel lines. The most common mistake people do is that they add additional line to the phone line. so one goes into the phone and the other to the modem. THIS IS WRONG. This reduces the signal strength and the connection breaks when there is a call (incomming/outgoing)

Ideally, your telephone line should first go into the modem, then from the line out for phone, you can connect your telephone or add multiple parallel lines.

I'm from Mumbai, don't have any parallel line, neither any incoming calls, only have instrument (phone) to get calls from MTNL or registered complaint. Still face same problem from 3rd September 2009.

my frnd has complained them so many times.. they just come check the telephone wire + router and go. For 20-30 mins net works fine.. aftr that regular problem persists.. Connect ...disconnect...

you will hardly find stable light on my frnds router ..

watz d solution guys ???

nething we can do ???

I experienced the same problem yr ago , and I used the same irritating solution of removing receiver till I get connection. For this I changed the wire from Telephone Junction box( my floor ) to the phone, that wire was too old(copper wire). Now my connection more stable

thanks a lot for all these helpful replies. so possible solutions are :

1. get connection wire changed by giving few hundred bucks to mtnlwalas...

2. connect modem & phone in serial rather than parallel (which is default done by mtnl)

(but how to do it ? splitter only allows parallel distribution )

kindly comment on above....

any other possible solutions.....?

Well personally speaking . . BSNL had done shit [and when i say BSNL. .MTNL implies by default]. . they didnt know what to configure and how. . I did everything . .rite from the wiring issues to the router config :@ and that was 3 months after i had applied for a connection :rofl:

Thats a different story. . .basically when i had put the phone and modem on parallel without the splitter but using the in house tele line distribution, the problem of disconnection was there. . BUT when i deisconnected an additional instrument and then applied the splitter the problem was solved.

Also these cheap ass splitter go fault many times. .get it checked as well :ashamed:

I think your problem is the splitter.

I think he is stating exactly the opposite.

Moreover, with a properly working splitter, the status of the phone should not matter at all to the broadband. Multiple parallel connections will affect to some extent.

2. connect modem & phone in serial rather than parallel (which is default done by mtnl)

You cannot make a series connection. It has to be parallel subject to a splitter.
