Guys i seem to have a prob.. i ahv a night unlimited plan and usually i watch videos on youtube once my net is free ie after 12 in d night.. but i hav been noticing this since the past 2 week that from 12 to 1 i get much reduced speeds as compared to that before.. if i keep restarting my router i ultimately get nice speeds(200kb+) after 1.. is it possible that mtnl is capping my speed so that i get the same speed through the nite in case i leav smthing for download at 12???

MTNL has good plans but crappy infrastructure and sometimes it shows. Just see ur SNR margins etc when you get low speeds. If they are alright, then MTNL is capping speed.

But I doubt that. whenever I get low speeds, it is because of poor line signal due to some hardware problem at MTNL hub.

If you keep on restarting your router, you get connected to some hubs which are alright and hence you get proper speeds. But it's a lottery.

^^ yep right. I don't know which router you have but in Dlink DSL 502T, you go to 192.168.1.1 > go to status >click ADSL in the menu on left. And that's it. You will get your values :)

Well as far as I know, my unlimited connection from MTNL is capped and it has been like this for months and cause of it, I never get any more than 25-27 download speed, no matter at what time I connect.

Dude even I am facing the same problem since many days.No matter whatever i tried it, does not work. Those babus are definitely capping the speeds.Especially i notice that between 12-1am speeds are below 25kb..:S

These guys even replaced my router after complaining and all sorts of adjustments...but no use.First I thought that maybe only I am facing this problem, but now i am definitely sure this is done on purpose. Because normally at around 1am when I restart the router speeds jump to around 200kbps+...

I wonder what can be done in such a case:( , because whenever those babus come at my place during daytime to check the wiring stuff, etc., the speed are fine...the problem happens only after 12am.

kk...i hav ut starcom...
but its there on that too...jus chkd it out...
thks for the pointer...

btw..i don hav capping issues...i always get 28-30 KB/s on my plan...

@avinash

dude u mean 1 am or pm coz i m facing problem at night time which is am.. i think u got a typo

and there is obviously some crap these mtnl asses are upto coz now its an every day affair.. however i cant understand how come the cap goes off after 1???

the simple solution i have figured out is get the router restart script and do schedule tasking .. atleast that solves the torrents part of it..

Same here. Been like this for like ages now. It's very dodgy until 1AM & after that it slowly starts picking up the speed on itself. This doesn't happen at all times though. On certain intervals, I have 243KBps download speed right from the beginning to the end. But mostly it's capped till 1AM & then starts throttling. I usually enqueue all my downloads in IDM & those just pick up speeds after the capping is over. I used to reboot the router earlier but later on found that it's not necessary. It automatically starts rising.

Has anyone found any concrete solution to this? :@

Fortunately, I am yet to experience it. Downtime? Yes. Bad SNR? Yes. But no capping of speeds. Though when SNR is bad my speed dynamically gets capped. But I don't think it's deliberate.

In that case you're very lucky. I have experienced this on random occasions & 90% it's been capped speed till 1AM. That's like taking around 800-900MB data download off the grid. But overall am pretty satisfied. Wish they had 9 to 9 download period just like TATA Indicom.

Capped Speeds??OMG! Have yet to see it for myself. I dont have any sort of problem with my connection. speed remains the same +200 kbps. All i know is that because of the traffic the speed drops but when i am using rapidshare and have 4-5 downloads simultaneously then the speed comes back to +200 kbps.
