Hello everyone!!
Agent Bikey reporting Live and Semi-kicking from where he was (on dial up for sometime)!!

Due to a certain goof up, i am where i was:ohyeah: and now on dial up as Triband connection for me will be temporarily down!!:(
(Sad coz triband will be down:P )

But the important news i want to tell is that MTNL helpline at '1500' works at 6:00am in the morning!!:O

After the recorded 'Welcome ...' and few rings more than usual, a lady answered the call!!:O

Still half asleep, she gave me the default number for dial-up internet!!:hap2:

Said sorry and thank you!!:)

Put in the number only to realise- Duh- i need a username and password!!:ashamed:

Called up again and the same lady provided the information!!

As i was saying Sorry for disturbing her so early in the morning and calling back again, she said- No problem!! Its her duty and i may call back if i had any other questions, followed by the customary- 'Thank you for calling MTNL helpline'!!:O

Now 'WHO' said Mumbai is RUDE!!

MTNL Mumbai Rocks, Mumbai kicks @$$!!:hap2:

p.s. Check sig!! On dial-up till that thing disappears from my sig!!:P

The good news is that you see less of Bikey PJs; i see more movies and play more games!! rofl cool2

lol, i have called Airtel customer care at 1am and 4am:P.

Anyways looks like MTNL has got a good customer care, nice to know that. I still dont know if BSNL has anything like this:S.

I called up at 2AM complaining improper allotment of monthly quota ( it was my mistake:P ) and i still got answer. MTNL has become professional over years. Swift replies, on time prompt service, soo fast activation of broadband and landlines. Its almost like dealing with the private company. Hell i have sent 4 mails to them and reply to each of my question was waiting in my inbox next day.

and now on dial up

My kids have used a DialUp MTNL conx for years.... this service of MTNL is GREAT never had any downtime - ever - just dial 172231 give your phone number as user name and "mtnl" as the password and you are connected - no forms to fill - no deposits - no Cablewalla or ISP to deal with - just plain connect up and you get billed 10 paisa per minute of usage in the next phone bill - works out to 600/- for 100 hours of usage. Never felt that I have been over billed by MTNL. All downloads are at around 5 - 6 KB/s and the conx speed is 52 kbps. All you need for this conx is a MTNL phone line installed.

When I connect to TE and other forums my 256 kbps BB conx is about half the speed in opening pages compared to MTNL's DialUp :O MTNL's DialUp opens all WEB pages at good speed.

i was also using MTNL dial up connection the only time i didnt have connection was in the month july 2005 (for one whole month) all the lines had gone kaput at tht time, no doubt their service is good when i faced downtimes they immediately checked my line when i was talking with them on phone :O and when there was no improvements i get a phone call from Line people within 15 minutes who were checking the lines from the box :O i was like wow thts fast and they rectified the problem..

i used to get 4-5K on torrents (yes i downloaded torrent files on dial up also)
browsing was good

i was on 56k Unlimited connection had to pay 3000 refundable deposit for a separate line connection 700/- was charged as monthly bill

if at all MTNL comes in my area with a unlimited 256/512K BB plan :D i ll switch to it, no idea when exactly will airtel bump here :( they are still telling it will take em 2 months to come in the area...

^^ eazy ditto man!! dial up does rock!!!

but its rare for triband to not work.. hmm...

still do have bad experiences with the customer care once in a while. but overall its still great!!

mtnl mumbai esp... .dunno abt delhi.....

Here is a screen capture of a download I did once on the MTNL DialUp conx - it is NOT a doctored picture - it was a freaky download - took place at 09:30am on 22 March 2004. I really dont know how this happened - I have had such unbeliveable downloads 3 times with MTNL all on a 56K USRobotics external modem. These freaky downloads dont last long - duration of one smallish file download only

aing? i doubt that you really got that speed! it happens when you leave the dialog box on..the one which asks you whether you want to save it or no. .. and if yo keep it on for sometime. and then start . it shows some really high download speeds! which aint really what you downloading at!

but there used to be times when mtnl used to have some problems with their servers and downloads speeds were consistent 8-10kBps.. for days on end.!!

i used to do around 10gb a month on dial up!! lol

^^^ YUP - you are proably right the files may have been downloaded in the background and when I said "save" it must have been transferred from my Temp folder..... THANKS for bursting my bubble !! :(

muhahahaha.. spymagent to the rescue!!!! :bleh:

actually one of the thingsi hated abt mtnl CS.. was that if ya complained to them... and if they didnt reply to ya after sometime. they would cal ya at 6:30 in the morning and ask what the problem is?? wtf!! my problem? what is your prb?? calling me when i jsut went to sleep!! sheesh

this happend like 3 times ! lol... but glad the problem was solved... :D... love mtnl.. love triband!

muhahaha..

man when when when would u/l be out?! sheesh

OH YES !!! I started with a VSNL shell account - UNIX based - used to take me 10 minutes to give the command "download THIS file" and the file would be so small that it would download in 5 minutes. :(

Even before shell accounts there were the BBS's - Bullitin Boards - I was a memeber of Livewire..... in fact if you did a Google search today for me the only reference comes from Livewire though they are long gone :)

hmmm.... when i started downloading. i used to download from mirc!! yes mirc.. i was a frigging little kid then and i could so easily understand the myraid commands.. but now it looks and sounds soo friging difficult... bah! me gettng old now :(

and i had free dial up then!! lol

I do remember BBS ...boards although faintly , maybe i had used or seen someone accessing it ... what was it all about

BBS's were fun.... it was a group of people logging into a server and chatting and downloading freeware at a price of Re 1 per MB - only freewares were available - at that time all our footpath versions of softwares were bought from Lamington road. That was during Windows 95 days. But the BBS was DOS based - I think it ran on a software named Wildcat or something like that.

If TE was around at that time it would have been a very popular BBS. :) Livewire used to have meets and seminars. I think I used to pay around 1000/- per year for Livewire memebership. I had a 14.4K USR external modem at that time. Still have it in a very good condition - should I put it up in the Market section for sale as a paper weight ? :D
